Re: Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
They have nothing in common except that they are similar in your own mind. I can't say I'm shocked given your user name, but it's hard to see any sort of relevance in comparing Campbell to a guy who last played for the Skins in 1997.

Statwise they are not that far apart. JC won't surpass Frerotte in total yards passing til weeks 6-8 if his average of last year holds up. Also to surpass Frerotte's TD career mark JC better hope his WR corp gets it act together. Check the yardage and TD marks yourself. And by the way JC is average to above average, and that is the comparison that I am making. If Frerotte and even Johnson were expendable with their respective acheivements as Skins, why do you think JC should be an automatic resign? That is the whole thing that boggles my mind. |

Re: Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
To Gtripp,
The whole comparison with JC and Frerotte is that they will/were given time to mature and show some progression into a potential franchise QB. Frerotte didn't get over the hump per say, so he was released. I just don't see JC getting over the hump in proving he is a bona fide franchise QB this season with the "crap" he has to work with. Frerotte didn't have much to work with either. That to me is the similarity also. My whole thing is why should everyone think JC should be resigned, when if '09 sucks again he hasn't proven himself capable of getting over the hump like Frerotte and other QB's. |

Comparing total passing yds from Frerotte in 1997 to Campbell 2009 just isn't very helpful. Sure, they're going to be very close in passing yards because Campbell's about reached the point where he's got as many passes on the Skins as Frerotte, but that doesn't tell me anything. Gus may have been the last QB the Redskins drafted who actually got this much time to develop, but the NFL wasn't a remotely similar league then, so that's why it makes little sense. Campbell's success or failure here has zero relevance to how Gus' career here ended.

I like Colt. He's got swagger. But the only way he plays is if J.C. proves he's NOT the guy.

Re: Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
Zorn is grooming both JC and Brennan as an insurance policy for the QB position. JC has had so many different systems to learn that he is being purged and taught Zorn's system to develop. Zorn won't wait too long before bringing in competition for JC should he fail to develop this year. Brennan, on the other hand, has been under just Zorn. He has the advantage of learning the system without any prior system's habits to break. He can be developed from the git go. Todd Collins is just a stop gap so that Zorn has time to ween Brennan. The upcoming year will be a defining year for one of those QB as the heralded starter and future of the Redskins organization. Let's see who wants it more.

Re: Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
I think if it was left up to Zorn alone to decide who should be his starting QB, it might be the QB that he drafted, not the one that he got stuck with and was ordered to "make it happen". Just my opinion.
I'm not a Jason Campbell fan by any means but for the sake of the Redskins as a team, I hope he succeeds. No more excuses for his slow release, inability to read a defense, his inaccuracy in his passing game and poor decisions. No more excuses about the offensive line as other teams and one in particular, that made it to the Super Bowl, had protection problems similar to ours also. Improvement in of itself will not be enough to justify JC as the "Franchise QB". It's time for the team to rely and depend on his play and ability to lead this team. The pieces are there, it's up to him to be able to know how to manipulate and use them to his advantage. A leader and a winner makes the players around him better and them wanting to play for him. I haven't seen this from Jason Campbell or the players that surround him, yet. Hopefully this will be the year he makes the Redskins his team.

Out of curiosity what is your opinion of Eli Manning and Ben Rothlesberger (prior to last year)?

Re: Has Zorn already hand picked the QB for his offense?
Exactly the Eagles philosophy. Now, is McNabb satisfied with making average talent at WR look better? Didn't think so, and who could blame him? Not to mention T.O gave every QB he's played for career years, and that includes McNabb.
