Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
Quote:
As to records, Cowher's record is vastly superior to Shanahans. Tomlin won a superbowl with a team built by Cowher. Just like Shanahan won a superbowl with a team built by his predecessor. Just like Gruden won one built by his. Cowher's teams were in the playoffs 10 out of 15 years (66%). Shanahans were in 7 out of 16 (43.7%) Its a "what have you done for me lately league," so how do these two stack up? Cowher retired on his own after going 34-14 (0.708 winning percentage) in his past 3 years. Shanahan was fired with something like 21MM and 3 years left on his contract. He was ran out of town by one of the most patient owners in football. Why? Shanahan's record in the last 3 years - 24-24 (0.500). In his past 10 years, shanahan made the playoffs 4 times. In three of those instances, they lost in the WILD-CARD ROUND. In ten years, Shanahan's teams advanced past the wild card round ONCE. For comparison - Cowher's last 10 years - 2 AFC Division Game Losses. 2 AFC Championship Game Losses. 1 Superbowl Victory. In the most recent 10 years, Cowher's teams made it to atleast the 2nd round of the playoffs FIVE TIMES. Based on their history, with Shanahan, we'll be in the playoffs less than half the time with a record that hovers a little above or below 500. With Cowher, we'd be in 2 out of every 3 years. Both are upgrades over what we had with Zorn. But if you want to compare the two, its not even close. Cowher is the vastly superior coach.
