One another point, for those saying we saw this with Marty in 2001 and this will be 2001 all over again. This is not the same situation. Marty was running everything-the scouting process, the draft process (not just draft day but all the weeks and months leading up to it-choosing who to interview at the combines, who to bring in for pro day, etc), managing the cap. Marty, as is his preference, ran everything and didn't have much of a front office. Just him and the scouts. Allen will take the lead in a lot of those areas which should provide for a more efficient organization. And allow Shanahan to focus primarily on coaching, even with final say on personnel decisions
I really see this hire much more as DS having evolved and not making some dramatic change this season like most fans see it. Dan Snyder started out very hands on, but he has relinquished the reigns to Marty for a little, and then to JG for longer. He knows, trusts and respects both BA and MS, and I think BA gives him the link to the glory days that he really wants, so he doesn't have to pose with the 3 trophies, or keep older coaches. The trust, respect, and link allow him to sit back more, and let this franchise soar.

It is easy to look solely at results and be pessimistic about this change, but I think if you look at the path of Snyder's ownership you see a trend toward the result we all want. I think it's like a sine wave in that you have the up curves of Marty-JG-MS and the valleys of SSpurrier-JZ but those fluctuations have really allowed DS to find his way to being a top flight owner.
Now if MS fails and we go 4-12 the next 2 seasons, we will have a stark raving lunatic as an owner frothing at the mouth kinda like Al Davis...
