Apparently, the Gary Schultz dude was involved with university police(VP or something) and McQueary did inform him of what he witnessed, allegedly. I'm just saying.

McQueary is the worst in all of this (save the obvious choice of Sandusky). He saw a 58 year old man sodomizing a kid. He was apparently 28 years old at the time 6'4 200 something pounds. I don't know about you but in a fight I would have thought that McQueary had the upper hand.

I mean if he had seen him naked in the showers with the kid that would have been one thing, because even though thats inappropriate it still leaves a little room for reasonable doubt. However from what I'm hearing he actually saw the rape and there is nothing to misinterpret about that situation. He caught him red handed and rather then saving the kid from a feeble old man he ran and left that kid to suffer through more abuse, not even calling the police. That is unacceptable.

Apparently one of the alleged reasons as to why he isn't being fired is to avoid any further liability. A university firing a whistle blower is apparently a great way to get sued.

I doubt McQueary is a unique case, nor is his cowardice "special" to him. I would suspect most of the outraged wanting his head would have, given a purely "tabula rasa" state of mind prior to such an incident, behaved similarly. This is not to excuse McQueary, but to point out that the many talking heads crucifying him for his non-escalation of violence would likely not have resorted to violence in their own right, despite their own self-perceptions to the contrary.

Ritchie Reacts To Sandusky Scandal - ESPN Video - ESPN

Jon Ritchie gives a emotional breakdown of his relationship with Sandusky and even says that knowing Sandusky the way he did, he probably would have reacted the same way as McQueary initially due to the shock factor.

He then goes on to say that once it sunk it, that's when he would have taken it to the proper authorities or at least followed up once his superiors did nothing.

It makes sense to keep him protected, not only from the "mob" enraged by his nonaction but those who don't want his testimony to get them convicted, i.e Sandusky, Schultz, etc.

I may have been stunned into inaction for some short time - maybe even a long time. At some point within the next 24 hours, though, the police AND Paterno would have been notified. And, at 28, I guarantee that I would not have had to call Dad first.

His actions could very well be influenced by residual Irish-American cultural values, an emphasis on family being one of them. This is not to excuse his behavior, but rather to make it more understandable why he decided to do what he did.

Not to mention that Sandusky's relationship with him had far greater deal of closeness and trust than a typical player-coach relationship since the families knew each other.

Pretty emotional pre-game scene in State College. Seeing all the tears and emotions of the students/fans... I do really feel bad for all loyal Penn State fans/alums/students that had nothing to do with any of this. I know what it's like to love a football program and school with all of your heart like that.

He's VP of Finance. Usually some stiff overseas the police department, but usually has 0 to do with law enforcement or making sure things are processed. That's how it is here at ECU and most likely that way across the nation. People want to say "well he was in charge of the police department", but that doesn't fly. Police officers are bound to different duties than say some guy of finance.

The father of Penn State assistant coach Mike McQueary says if he could, his son would discuss the child sex abuse scandal that has led to the firing of coach Joe Paterno.

“It’s not that he’s not willing,” John J. McQueary, told The New York Times. “I think it’s eating him up not to be able to tell his side, but he’s under investigation by the grand jury. He’ll make it. He’s a tough kid.”

Looks like McQueary is under investigation from Grand Jury. Hrmmm.. Also the fact his dad called him a "tough kid" is laughable. No dad, he isn't tough, which is why his sorry ass walked out when a kid was getting raped. In fact, his dad should be getting fired from his job just for giving that sort of advice.

This is a good article by a ex-FBI agent and a good story about Bo Schembechler having to "do the right thing."

In 1987, the FBI was investigating two sports agents, Norby Walters and Lloyd Bloom, who had ties to organized crime. Walters and Bloom had worked up a scam where they bribed blue-chip college football players to sign post-dated, secret, agency contracts while they were still eligible to play college football – a clear violation of NCAA rules. Ultimately some of the players balked, threats were made by Walters and Bloom, and the whole thing fell apart.

Players who had signed the contracts were identified. They were all star players on prominent college teams. Two of the players were on Bo’s 1986 Michigan team.

When Bo found out, he was livid. He called one of the players, Garland Rivers, an All-American DB, into the office and had Rivers tell him the whole story.

Then Bo called me.

When I got to Bo’s office, Bo told Rivers “Tell this FBI agent everything about your relationship with Norby Walters.” Bo could have distanced himself and Michigan from the investigation.

Michigan would have been just one of many major football programs victimized by Walters and Bloom. But that wasn’t Bo. Damage control doesn’t mean hiding from the truth. It means taking responsibility for your actions and trying to rectify the mistakes.

Fair enough then. But even so, Schultz broke Pennsylvania law by keeping his mouth shut.
