I think the Patriots are a good example of how irrelevant defensive rankings are in the NFL. They may give up a ton of yards, but they have a lot of takeways and their defense is good at stopping opposing teams score in the redzone. Our defense needs a lot of work, but as I have repeatedly said, they need to use what they have and make it work.

One, Yards/G is a shitty stat, but people keep citing it when they say "top 10 defense". Our other categories are out of the top 10, except for our first downs given up per game().

EVEN SO, having their elite O is masking their glaring deficiencies(partly due to injuries wreaking thier secondary). Should Tom Brady have another 2007 Super Bowl moment and be tamed, this D of theirs will not pick up the slack.

Oh no doubt. I really don't think the Patriots will do much in the playoffs. They will likely win the first round (since they'll play at home), but I can't see them beating the Steelers or the Ravens to get to the SB.
