I can only think of Gibbs as the other guy that Snyder had to have. And if you all remember, we had down years with Gibbs, especially after our 'good' year. And if you remember Gibbs left on his own terms with a contract that had a year left and a team that just went to the playoffs. Snyder knows that he has a super bowl winning coach in Shanahan. Sure shanahan hasn't gotten us to the playoffs but he hasn't had a QB or defense or both here. Gibbs always had a defense. Gibbs was here 4 years. Shanahan 3. Gibbs appeared in the playoffs 2 times. His defense was top 12 both times. Shanahan hasn't had that. Shanahan also had a worthless McNabb, Rex Grossman, and John Beck as his QB when he did have a good defense. Now he has a great QB and no defense.

Its simple; Give him his 2 years he has left on his contract, and let him play it out. If he doesn't get us to the playoffs in those 2 years, he's a failed HC experiment for us. If not don't resign him and get a new guy
