The idea is to get better, not to rely on the chance that rookie CB (whoever that may be) can perform adequately at a starting CB spot. The worst (and possibly best) case scenario at this point might be to re-sign DHall. That way, we're probably no worse off at CB than we were last season.

I think that there is a middle path here: sign a vet like Winfield or DHall to a short contract, so that we know we have an experienced starter opposite Josh Wilson. Simultaneously, load up on DB's in the draft. In this way we've looked after both the short-term and the long-term. Then we can hope that Crawford or a rookie can develop enough to make significant contributions this year, which would make this plan even stronger.
