Re: Redskins vs. Giants pre-game thread

I hate to bring unfounded optimism to the table, but did any of you guys notice that the Redskins gave up a GRAND total of 0 points in the first quarter this preseason? Pittsburgh....the Ravens....the Colts.....these are not terrible teams! Yes, the first quarter of preseason is a good indicator of how far along you are. Anyone remember how we use to look very bad in the first quarter of preseason, only to come back later and win in the 4th? [Spurrier] That was a very bad omen, and a good look into how we really stacked up against the competition. How about under Marty? We looked flat and discombobulated. [can't believe I spelled that word correctly!]

I didn't see LL on the field....anywhere. I saw Reed Doughty all over the place and filling in more than adequately as a replacement, though. I saw lots of pressure - QB's running for there lives. I saw Swarming LB's and a D-line that pushed people around like it was closing time.

Having Landry would be nice....we don't HAVE to have him though, you have that luxury when you have a good, young, DEEP team.

Re: Redskins vs. Giants pre-game thread

I bet pretty much every player can tell you where they were that day. Throw in the first game jitters, the "Yay America!!" hype, I bet both sides are pumped.

Shanahan's second year with Bronco's

His team led the league in rushing. 2,362 yds

They were 4th in scoring. 391 points

They were 13-3.

They were 4th in total offence. 5,791 yds.

The year before> [1995] they were 8-8.

It's not a stretch to seeing us doing well this week!

His team also had John Elway, not Rex Grossman. There's a little difference between the two wouldn't you say?

Did John Elway run the football?

He was good this year, but not his best season. It was the running, that got them the SB.

No, but you'd be lying to yourself if you think the quarterback doesn't impact the run game. A good passing game keeps defenses honest and prevents them from stacking the box for fear of getting burned.

Sometimes it does, not as much as you might think. The redskins ran the ball like crazy in 1985 without very good QB play from Thiesman.

Mooby, we need John Elway to compete?

He had very good numbers that year [1996]....like I said, it wasn't his best year, though.

Sort of meant, was he a running back? No, he was fleet footed even at 35, but he did not carry the load. That's my point. :smashfrea

Also, hatter alert:

Agree. I was thinking Giants could be a surprise team - they are physical, they will run and in WR can make plays but too many injuries. I see Redskins' running game being a major factor with Hightower.

Re: Redskins vs. Giants pre-game thread

As the reigning prediction champ (wilsowilso won the Super Bowl score prediction thread- one point from exact score for both teams)

I predict.

Skins 30
Giants 20

PS - I never won a single prediction thread before that so don't take my word for it.
