We have a contract with FedEx... so they won't be moving.

The article stated Dan was traveling, he's traveling to Tom and Katie's wedding in Italy.

RFK is nowhere near modern stadium standards. Just the seats alone are uncomfortable. If you weigh over 200lbs, you'll be uncomfortable sitting down in RFK.
Have you actually been to RFK? Maybe for a Nats game. The seats there are big, wide & very roomy. Try getting that at Camden, M&T Bank or any of these modern stadiums. RFK is no gem and it has its share of problems but the seats are not one of them.

I can't imagine Danny not wanting some kind of sweetheart deal from the city like the Nats got. I doubt that because he has lot of $ he will forget trying to get everything out of the city that he can (I dont blame him for that).

I thought Dan purchased the stadium when he purchased the team. Now they do have a contract with FedEx which purchased the stadium name rights for so many years. So if they did build a new stadium it would probably still be called FedEx field until the contract runs out. Then they would renew the deal or find another Co. to purchase the rights. I don't think that RFK would ever be the name even if they did move the field. Another person mention the traffic at FedEx but that seats like 35,000 more people as would the new stadium so the traffic issues would still be a problem. Unless the old site was that much better but anytime your trying to move 95,000 people traffic will always be an issue.

The reason why RFK is a much easier commute is because the metro is walking distance from the stadium. FedEx has a metro station near the stadium, but its like a mile and a half away from it.

You know the Danny would probably make the stadium the same size, but the design would be more fan friendly (no more obstructed veiws) and with the metro access, that would ease the traffic a little.

Re: Redskins could come home to RFK

I find it unlikely. They are generating piles of cash with the current stadium. To build a new retractable roof-state of the art facility would require taking on massive new debt (like 800 million or so) or public financing which would mean a battle with D.C City Council and the voters there and having to share revenue and possibly no ownership. Mr. Cooke offered those dumbasses an amazing deal and thet were too stupid to take it. As was Alexandria. There punishment should be to never have the Redskins again.

I think the old RFK stadium should dismantled and rebuilt on route 234 here in Manassas and they should play there. But that's just me.

If you saw my inital post you would've seen that I have been to RFK for a skins game. And I've been to numerous Nationals and DC United games.

I think the seat are uncomfortable, but thats just my opinion.

Especially considering the founder and CEO of FedEx is a minority owner of the Redskins.

It would be a great idea back in the city. It would probably be like the Cardinals stadium where the grass is rolled into the dome.

Re: Redskins could come home to RFK

If a new stadium was built the contract for the naming rights with FedEx would be void on the current stadium I am sure. These naming rights contracts all run at least 20 years and most of the stadiums were already old enough that in 20 years they wont be open so I am sure the contracts aren't binding if the team moves.

The rights for the new stadium would then be put up for bid I would imagine.

Re: Redskins could come home to RFK

I wish the new stadium could be smaller, way too many seats in FED EX, the eagles and ravens seat in the 60's i believe, that's more reasonable.
