We have a 46" Sharp Aquos and it's damn nice. We have it hooked up to Comcast Digital and I really don't have too many complaints.

The best flat screen on the market is the Pioneer plasma, then a close second is the Sony LCD, after those 2 you probably have a coin flip, Once you compare the picture of the Pioneer to the rest of the TV's you will see a major difference in quality.

Olevias also seem to rate very high in the budget scale.
I lost all trust in CR several years back for a rating they did for the best priced term insurance. The Co. they rated as the best is about the worst in the industry and it was a total joke. They also did another report which I knew they could not have done very much reserch on the subject.

I typically cross-reference with a bunch of other sites. The Sonys and Sharps seem to be good across the board.

Consumer Reports for financial advice?

They're the best around for cars, electronics, and "stuff." But they're not the first name I think of for anything financial.

Re: Plasma HDTV, who has one, and what do you think?

I actually have a CRT HDTV.

The picture is remarkable.

It was a decent price and is comparable to the best HDTV's out there.

The reason I chose it over most LCD's:
Price.
Quality: With a CRT, the blacks are darker.
and No ghosting or artifacts in fast motion sequences.
also, standard definition tv looks unbearable on a HDTV, But onthis one, it doesnt look as bad.

The down side is the god damn thing weights 200lbs and won't fit in any tv cabinets or on the wall.

I've read a few bad reviews on the Visio, But alot of my friends and family have them and they look great! I don't think anyones had a problem with them.

There needs to be more HD channels...

Re: Plasma HDTV, who has one, and what do you think?

I have just bought a 32 inch LCD HD and have been surprized that the picture is not as sharp as I thought it was going to be. Is that because I haven't hooked up cable for HD yet? When I do hook up HD with my cable company will the non HD channels improve or am I stuck with the other channels being no better than ordinary television? I would appreciate any info. Thanks.

I also have an older gentlemen that I work with that bought the Plasma HD vizio from costco, he loves it. It's a big screen, he got a heck of a price and speaks highly of it.

Regular TV doesn't look so hot on a HDTV. However, what sort of cable are you using for the hookup? That can make a difference. Do you have a HDMI hookup available? The old red, yellow and white RCA cables don't cut it anymore.

I bought a 42" Samsung Plasma and the picture quality for non-HD channels simply sucks. The picture quality for HD-channels, however, was awesome. We ultimately returned the TV because I don't get enough HD channels to deal with the poor quality of the non-HD channels. I plan to wait a year or so until more HD channels become available. If you're impatient, you might want to go with Direct TV as they have more HD channels than most cable providers.
