I don't really have a problem with a thread like this. I mean I started an "If we had the first pick" thread. Which is probably even more pointless than this one. I mean they're both rather extreme hypotheticals, but it's fine to have these every now and then.

But it's hard not to respond critically to the opinion presented in the first post. Especially in light of other comments/opinions by that same person.

Also, most of my comments have been directed at not getting Chad Johnson. A serious cancer and head case who I wouldn't want even if we get him for only a 3rd round pick.
If you noticed, I was wanting to go after Roy Williams. I think you are unfairly trying to assume a point of view, when in actuality they are all separate issues. How can I be so willing to trade picks for Williams, but not for CJ? It has to do with age / contract / ability / size / and attitude. Every case is different. I prefer to keep our picks for good young talent, but if we can get someone the caliber and age of Williams for our 1st rounder, I'd go for it. If we could trade Portis for McFadden straight up, I'd go for it. (not that any team would do that). Every scenario is different.

In other words, just cause I pose the question doesn't mean I agree with it. We've posed a thousand threads about trading for Chad Johnson, or which WR to trade for, but no one has posed the idea of trading up to fill needs. Even if I don't agree with trading up, I'd like to hear the ideas.
It's rare that I ever agree with democrats, but I still listen cause they can occasionally have good ideas. It's all for the sake of discussion.

Not to pile on you here but YOU CANT BE SERIOUS?!?!? Trade a young, proven, top tier pro, who is the complete package and essentially the heart and soul of our team for an unproven rookie?? There are only 3/4 players the redskins would trade up for Long/Dorsey/Ellis maybe Albert and to do that we would have to get too high to make it worth while along with the contract they would command.

Portis will be 27 when the season starts, that's not young for a RB, in fact that is closer to retirement than it is "young". He has dropped in YPC the past 3 seasons, and was a poor 3.9ypc this past season. He doesn't have a whole lot of miles left on him especially considering the punishment he's taken over the years. He's got one more good year left, so Portis could stay as the #1 for this year, but McFadden would take over next year after we released Portis. I'm not saying I think Portis stinks and I want him out of town, what I am saying is we could get considerably younger at the position with a sizable talent in McFadden...also, Portis is our highest paid player, so we would save money and set ourselves up for the future. Portis is actually worth something around the league RIGHT NOW, he won't be worth anything in 2 years.
I like Portis, he's a great player for us, but I think we are underestimating McFadden's ability. It's a win / win / win scenario if we traded Portis for McFadden straight up. (again, not like that would ever happen)

edit: Nevermind, after taking a gander at the cap info, he obviously restructured and helped us out. This would not benefit us after all, it would cost an unreal amount of money to pull this trigger.

I would never trade up in this draft...I want more picks not less. If they did I guess it should be for a DT like Dorsey but again I would never do it.

With Griffin getting older, that wouldn't be a bad idea. That would mean for certain that Griffin would be cut next year though.
