This is almost as nice for them as getting a 2nd for Chris Chambers. Not quite that good, but close.
Chambers or Taylor? I'd take Jason Talyor please. How productive has he been for the last few years?

re: Redskins trade for Jason Taylor (updated)

A 2nd sounds like a lot to me based on what's been reported previously about other teams' interest. Never know though, Vinny might have had some good intel that somebody else was offering a 3rd & something else, so he had to up the offer.

Terrible that Daniels went down, but in one day this really improves our D. I give props to Danny & Vinny for acting w/lightening speed on this after losing 2 DEs in 1 day.

Also, we never know if this deal was in the works before Daniels was hurt, but if Daniels' injury was truly the impetus, then give the front office props for letting Blace stick w/his vets.

JT & AC; they can't both wear 99, but that's the only down side. If they can get 15-20 sacks between them, which they're capable of, our D will be much improved.

Good point about not knowing if we made a offer prior to this and had to up the ante. There's still plenty of good numbers up for grabs.

Seem to remember a certain Quarterback taken in the 6th round (#199 overall) that seems better than average.......guy named Tom Brady.

Don't discount the value of later round picks, although semi-rare some tend to pan out nicely. That is why so many teams trade out of the early rounds to acquire more picks in the second day rounds. Diamond in the rough and not paying rounds 1 to 3 contract is worth that risk.

You have got to love the quickness by the front office to fill in the gap. Great job

Spergon Wynn was also a sixth rounder. Scouts were just as high on him as they were on that other guy.

My point is this: people (and some football execs) overvalue 5th-7th round picks, but they seem to undervalue undrafted free agency as a means for roster filling. Because the bottom of the draft is screwed up, it makes sense to trade those picks for veteran talent, and be very agressive in signing undrafted free agents.

Many UDFAs don't get a fair shot because the team "invested" in a late rounder. If, instead, they kept the spots on their roster open, and signed a bunch of quality talent while only keeping the best, they'd be more efficient in team building.

What is his salary terms? Will he demand to another contract? Would Parcells have wanted to trade to us if he still coached in DAL?

re: Redskins trade for Jason Taylor (updated)

I thought it was a fair deal, I have no real concerns about his ability to play the run. Freeney is about the same size and has a similar game and the Colts don't struggle to stop the run. I have more concerns about Taylor only playing one season, that would equate to this deal being highway robbery.

I hate to say this, because I really like him, but Philip Daniels could be the Skins MVP this year. I already liked our D-line, but with the addition of J. Taylor the pass rush could be downright scary! I think a 2nd rounder is a bit high, but let's face it the Dolphins had all the leverage here. Carter and Taylor coming off the ends just made the back 7 that much tougher!!

HAIL!!

Yeah, I like Daniels too & think he' a solid guy & player, but he's no JT. We now have one of the top 5 DE pass rush combos in the nfl.

Boy was I wrong! I do believe a healthy Jason Taylor would have had a bigger impact. I hope he returns next season. I hate to give up those two picks and only get the half season he played in return!

Yeah i have to own up too... i had visions of sugar plums dancing in my head and Jason "Xerxes" Taylor dominating QBs while he wore the B & G.

Going forward I just don't see him fitting well now that we aren't facing a last minute decision. Taylor isn't real effective @ left end but probably not a huge upgrade over AC on the other side (in our 4-3 system). Like i said elsewhere as much as i respect Daniels i mean c'mon, 36 yrs of age and it's not like he was always healthy prior to '08. If cutting JT clean allows us to grab a value left end, someone who can stop the run and get a little more pressure than Evans, i'm ok w/ that.

... heard it suggested Taylor would play OLB (replacing Marcus btw things sound). F'ing no ok. Just f'ing no. Tackling, run-stopping is not his strong suit.

I like the deal. This will make the rest of our D much better with a bit more pass presure.

JT is only going to play one more year.

He has no alligence to the Skins and has even told everyone he just wants to play one more year before going into Hollywood. I'm fine with that. DE was one of weak spots on our defense. Taylor should shore it up for the time being...don't get too attached to him though because he's a one and done.
