Re: Faulk's top 5 TE'S NO COOLEY!!!!!

I think we will see more of Fred Davis that you think .. I think some sets of 2 TE's are in the near future .. Davis is a special player with great hands .. I love cooley but this kid needs a shot ... who says we can't have 2 TE's play a vital role in our offense ?? why the hell not ...

The WCO uses many 2 TE sets. Davis will be fine. Word is that he did well in the OTA's. last i heard anyways.

Tony Gonzalez
Antonio Gates
Jason Witten
I can completely understand the top 3.....but there is no way in hell I would take Owen Daniels and Dallas Clark ahead of Cooley....

Also I'm betting he's making his judgement off of last yrs performance. Cooley's worst yr.
Career highs in catches and yards and it's his worst year?

Faulk's list is good, but I'd take Cooley over Dainels anyday, and his production over the last 2 yrs reflects that.

Re: Faulk's top 5 TE'S NO COOLEY!!!!!

Personally, my list looks like this:
1. Tony Gonzalez
2. Antonio Gates
3A. Chris Cooley
3B. Jason Witten
5. Clark/Daniels, pretty much interchangable as far as I'm concerned. I don't either of them, but if I had to pick, I'd probably go with Daniels, just cause I'm not a huge Clark fan.

Like every other Redskins fan I am a big Chris Cooley supporter. Have the authentic jersey, multiple autographs, etc. to prove it. But you can't just dismiss Owen Daniels because you have (probably) never seen him play and his name is not familiar. He is a slightly more dynamic player than Cooley and has an edge in athleticism. I mean, I'd take Cooley on my team any day, and you can make the argument that he has had four consistently good seasons (of five) in a row while Daniels only has two (of three), but it is by no means crazy to place Daniels above Cooley. Cooley is right there with those guys, who cares if he is "#6" or "#7." And as far as production goes, it is really close so I don't know how you can use that criteria to exclude Daniels.

Daniels -

2007 - 63 catches, 768 yards, 3 tds
2008 - 70 catches, 862 yards, 2 tds

Cooley -

2007 - 66 catches, 786 yards, 8 tds
2008 - 83 catches, 849 yards, 1 td

I agree, I think Daniels gets dismissed just because the Texans aren't as popular/good so they don't get many primetime games. And they're not local, so unless they play the Skins, we would rarely see them play. It is undeniable, however, that Owen Daniels is a very good Tight End.

You're kidding right? On a team with a pathetic offense the past two season, his stats were:

2008: 96 receptions, 1058 yards, 10TDs.
2007: 99 receptions, 1172 yards, 5TDs.

Those kind of numbers would put a WR in the pro-bowl, let alone a TE.

The guy is amazing, and he's aging like a fine wine. He has had at least 71 catches and 900 yards each of the last six seasons, plus he's durable. He's only missed two games his entire career. I think he's going to have a couple really nice seasons in Atlanta. He not only deserves to be on that list, he should be at the top of it.

I'm not excluding Dainels, I just think he's a very good receiving TE. Cooley is an all around TE. He's definitely a better blocker, has good hands, and can stretch the field. The list should be based on all the attributes (not just receiving) a TE should have and Cooley has a little bit of everything.

You don't think Daniels' is at least a decent blocker? I don't think he's any more of a liability as a blocking tight end than Cooley, personally.
