Re: Fed up...need advice!

(I noticed your wife was a HR Director, so please excuse me if I repeat some of the things she's advised you to do)

while the monster.com thing didn't work, check out the Denver newspapers websites and see what job listings they have there. I know the Washington Post here has a very good job database of which to look at local jobs.

Once you find a few positions you are looking at, go to the company's website and apply through them. A lot of times, job sites do not update their database quickly enough, and jobs you may have applied to through Monster may not be available anymore. Usually the company will list exactly how they want information from their applicants. And once you apply, follow up with a phone call and describe your situation, especially since you are looking to relocate, a phone call will help explain.

I also believe there are companies that specialize in helping people find jobs as they relocate. Look into those as well.

Good luck in your quest to move to Denver...

Also, you may want to consider south a bit. I lived in Colorado Springs for two years and it still is one of favorite places. It's been nearly 10 years and the place exploded in population which can be a good thing. It's a quick drive (1 hour) up to Denver if you want to do "big city" stuff. Check it out.

Re: Fed up...need advice!

The cost of living in Denver is alot higher than Carlsbad, NM.

When you have to fill out the field that says desired income, Take into account the higher cost of living.

Salary.com has some interesting data. Play around with it. Forbes also has a cost of living chart.

Here is one I did for you. I used El Paso as the current location. The only small town in NM was Santa Fe and that's expensive as hell...
Salary.com's Cost of Living Wizard Tool

Cost of living is 28% higher in denver.
Or you should consider San Diego! COL is only 75% higher than ElPaso.

Literally, there is nothing else around here. I have lived here for 10 years, and I hate it. It's hot all the time, and it only rains about 15-20 days a year at max. I know it may sound nice to have it sunny and hot all the time, but you get sick of it...trust me. I know it's going to be 105 with 10% humidity and not a cloud in the sky tomorrow. I miss the 4 seasons.
Anywho, we are REALLY wanting to move to Denver...I need all the advise I can get. Any suggestions for relocating to a place that is 9 hours away?

When are you trying to move.

I've already been to those sites to check out the cost of living, and while the cost of living in Carlsbad is about as low as you can get in the USA, the pay is just as low.

No problem.

Aurora is a suburb is Denver, and a huge area for Federal Contractors. Here is a listing of the companies that contract to the Government:
Federal Contracts to Contractors in Colorado 1 (Diana DeGette) Congressional District, FY 2006, list of contractors

Wouldn't hurt to look at some of those companies to see what you can come up with.

The company I work for (Irving Burton Associates) has a few contracts out in Aurora, but unfortunately aren't hiring for any of those positions at this time. If something comes up, I will be sure to let you know.

We have considered DC, but my wife was scared away with all the crime.
My wife being an HR director has always been a little intrigued with the area cause if I'm not mistaken the SHRM headquarters is there.
I am in NO WAY interested in LA or San Diego. FYI.
