Re: Cerrato wants more draft picks
After hearing what Vinny said at the Senior Bowl I'm about 94% sure we come away with a linebacker with our first pick. Good thing he's making sure we're getting young a position where we're having trouble with age /sarcasm.

Edit: looking @ mock drafts I saw Curry and Cushing are both projected to go in the top 15. I don't know anything about Curry but the video I saw of Cushing was less than impressive. He tends to lose his fit making the tackle... NFL backs will run through him if he doesn't get better on technique.

Re: Cerrato wants more draft picks
Also Cushing was rated w/ below average durability, which is basically the biggest complaint about Marcus. I DON'T UNDERSTAND VINNY. By all accounts this draft has better o-line talent than compared to LB, WR or something else and yet he continues to look in the other direction. This is getting bizarre.

Re: Cerrato wants more draft picks
I wouldn't read too much into anything Vinny says pre-draft. Consider this: FO's jockey for position and play mind games all the time as they assemble their boards and do their mocks. I just read an article on the Bucs draft the year they selected both Warren Sapp and Derrick Brooks in the first round. Rich McKay said they put it out there that they wanted Mike Mamula out of BC to throw off the pursuit, for lack of a better term. Then they traded down and got an additional 1st for two 2nd round picks in a trade. End of story.
It's all spec and wordplay at this point. The only people who know what is really going to happen are those in the Redskins War Room.

This year the focus seems to be on linebackers so you can see why I would think the team will go linebacker with their first pick this year. In fact the only mention I've heard of the line has been from third hand sources, people that claim Sndyeratto feel the line is a high priority, still all their actions so far lead me to believe they are going to do as much as they can to focus on other positions despite the fact that not only is the draft deep at Tackle and Center, but there are plenty of quality, cost effective, OLB's available in free agency that can at least serve as a stop gap. Personally unless Aaron Curry or Rey Maluga falls to us somehow I don't think theres much justification for taking a LB over an OT. And even then what are we going to do about the line? Their precious offense will fall apart if we keep on showing up with the guys they got, and afterwards they'll just scratch their heads wondering "what went wrong?" we took the best player available. I guess if they can go after Vernon Carey and Khalif Barnes in Free Agency and then drafted a Center in the third then I can back off and let them draft the linebacker of their choice but I doubt they'll do such a thing.

Re: Cerrato wants more draft picks
it might take us to take signs to the games saying fire vinny. if gets enough air time during the game over a season, this will eat away at danny boy and make him fire him.

Re: Cerrato wants more draft picks
I still don't know why y'all are bashin' the FO for drafting 3 pass catchers in the 2nd round. I don't completely agree with the Fred Davis, but i guess the thought of running a WCO wit 2 passing catching TEs made them drool....but they also picked 2 WRs to A. hopefully have a Fitz/Boldin type tandum, and 2. they figured only one would be a gem, and the other would be a bust, so they were playing the numbers game.
And to the dumbass that said we passed on Avery and Jackson and look what they did, THEY ARE BOTH UNDER 6'0"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we already have 2 receivers like that, we needed TALL receivers. so shut that shit up about passing on Jackson. y'all would've been screaming if we drafted a short receiver last year |

Re: Cerrato wants more draft picks
the real problem w/ the FO is our scouts/talent evaluators.....that or our coaches can't coach...like what one person said about our WR coach....think he should be looked at and fired if he doesn't make progress by mid-way point this season

Re: Cerrato wants more draft picks
It's hard to blame the last 10 years on him when we don't even know the extent of his involvement in personnel decisions. Only Snyder really knows that. To me beginning last year was day 1 of the Vinny era and it's only fair to judge him from then forward.

Re: Cerrato wants more draft picks
Well, for one VC has admitted he made a mistake w/ the whole AA saga and some of the other poor FA pickups. A huge mistake. He should be fired just for that decision.

But no. We chose Adam Archuleta over Ryan Clark. If you had to rank all of the boneheaded moves by our front orifice, that's got to be #1. |

Re: Cerrato wants more draft picks
The issue with the redskins is not Vinny Cerrato - it's a lack of real leadership. Right now, snyder wings it too much with important decisions. He's a spur-of-the-moment type of guy and doesn't plan enough. This is fine as an owner, but not good with the type of involvement he has with the organization. And he definitely cannot lead this organization with his type of attitude. Cerrato is fine for what does, but there needs to be someone there that has a plan and stays committed to and confident in that plan. A plan that the leader believes in. How can the players and anyone in the redskins organization believe in the team, if there isn't anyone there that can lead them with a plan and direction that they believe in?
Snyder for all of his passion and energy he has for the team, cannot be the ONE. He needs someone else to do this and just let himself be Dan Snyder. The problem is two-fold and also a double-edged sword. 1. Major issues with the team are handled and decided in certain ways and policies, decided by Snyder. And after a small amount of time, when these ways or policies don't seem to be working - then a major change of direction is decided on by Snyder because the old ways don't seem to be working. 2. The players and individuals in the redskins organization cannot believe or stay committed to a way of doing things because a change of direction always seems to be right around the corner. And this lack of commitment makes everything that is attempted - to not work. |

Re: Cerrato wants more draft picks
Vinny Cerratto has been here longer than any current FO person in the organization. I would venture to say since Bubba Tyer left, VC is probably the longest tenured employee in the current Redskins staff, since Snyder became owner.
Matty, I understand your point that there was no one person at the wheel of this franchise, but Vinny is not exempt of some form responsibility for the last 10 years. It is overly generous of you to wipe the slate clean for Vinny and claim 2008 is year 1. You can choose to do that, but I respectfully will agree to disagree with you. Vinny was never a lowly scout of division 2 college ball for the Skins. Vinny had a big boy seat right next to Snyder and the HC at the planning table. If you do not agree let me know. Skins rank 23rd out of 32 teams in wins since 2000. Some of that has to stick to teflon Cerratto. IMO Snyder will never fire Vinny. Never. If Snyder no longer wants him running player personnel he will move him to another position. Last edited by Defensewins; 01-26-2009 at 02:26 PM. |
