Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)

I am predicting Arizona, with Denver coming in second.

Miami will get left out, will get Matt Flynn.

Deciding factors:

*Arizona's climate for an aging player vs. Denver's winters
*Dome vs. Mile High Stadium in the winter
*Better chance to succeed with Cards than other teams
*Larry Fitzgerald vs. nobody in Denver and Marshall in Miami..Fitzgerald wins
*Good, young D in Arizona

I'm gonna throw a wild prediction out there and guess that Peyton, after deciding all his potential suitors suck, will retire and go into the broadcast booth.

Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)

Despite my name on here, I am currently in Colorado (and the locals LOVE the skins because of MS) and the Denver fanbase is pretty chill so I would love to see Manning come here. Tebow is a joke!
NFL.com news: Report: Broncos could deal Tebow if Manning signs on

Also, I found this article on the NFL website: NFL.com news: Breaking down every team's potential interest in Peyton Manning

I have a feeling it was pre St. Louis trade, but it is still intriguing. The last part talks about trading with the Texans so they can get Peyton. I like Shaub, and he would be way more of an asset than Grossman for working with RG3 on our offense. Plus, Shaub could jump right in and give RG3 a redshirt season if needed. The only problem is, if Shaub sucks our coach is unemployed because our fans want to win NOW. Its probably a stretch too because what could we give to get Shaub since we have given up so much to get the 2nd pick? Its probably nothing, but its for sure something to think about.

Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)

Maybe it would take away from the distractions for RG3...the cameras would be following Tebow and leaving RG3 alone, or at least giving him smaller mobs.

RG3 is going to have a media circus...if a tiny market like Charlotte can create a giant media storm around Cam Newton, just wait until the nation's capital has a QB just as talented, if not more talented. DC has been starving for a QB like Griffin.

I hope he adjusts to the attention quickly, because even with winning the Heisman Trophy, he hasn't seen anything yet,

Tiny? Charlotte is the 17th largest city in the US.

Charlotte is bigger than DC.
Considering that Charlotte's land area is 4x larger than DC (242 sq mi vs 61 sq mi) its no surprise that they have more people.

Everything is bigger than DC. The real question is how do the surrounding areas stack up for the respective cities? When you throw in Montgomery County-Maryland, Prince George’s County-Maryland, Fairfax County-Virginia, Arlington County-Virginia, and Loudoun County-Virginia.

Montgomery and PG County combined have a greater population then Charlotte as does Fairfax County alone. It's not the city itself, it's the surrounding area.

Granted no one should have said Charlotte is small, but by the same token it's not bigger then DC as a whole.

For regional populations the DC area ranks 7th. Charlotte area is down the list at 33. Its not even close.

Market size. Media and pro sports market.

If it were a bigger sports market, we'd still have the Charlotte Hornets. No one (nationally) cared about the Panthers until Cam Newton arrived.

There's no way anyone can claim that DC isn't considered one of the busiest media towns in the nation, up there with NYC and LA.

Charlotte is small potatoes.

The QB of the Redskins is always a big headline-grabber, even with bad and mediocre QBs. Look how much attention McNabb drew from the national media when he came to town. It's going be that times infinity when RG3 suits up.

You are misinformed. The Hornets didn't move away because it was a small market. It was due to the fact that George Shinn wanted a brand new stadium after about 6 years into the league and the Charlotte taxpayers weren't going to foot the bill. He became despised (and still is) that people stopped going to the games just to spite him (including playoff games). Before that time, the Hornets were among the league leaders in attendance.

The only reason nobody cared about the Panthers is because it was a expansion team. Hell, Los Angeles can't even gather more interest in a NFL team than the Panthers can.

This is very weird sports media market. It's football and quarterback specific, as you've pointed out. For a team that has been a perennial loser over the past 15-20 years, we probably garner as much national attention as any team in the NFL. In part, because of the team's rich legacy and also due to Dan Snyder's splurging during free agency.
