Re: Predict Your 2013 Redskins Record (pre-training camp edition)
It's not that we're not talented enough to win 12 games. We are. But I think a lot of people are expecting the seven game winning streak to continue indefinitely which is leading to a lot of really high predictions for a team that didn't really improve (or have the means to improve) in the offseason.
I am predicting that the days of beginning every. single. year. 3-6 are now over. I think we're too good to slump like that right out of the gate. And the other thing we have going for us is after years and years of playing a gauntlet schedule, the NFC East is no longer that tough, meaning we draw our six most critical games against a below average slate of opponents. But the rules of the NFL suggest that 75% of the teams are going to trend towards 8-8 from whatever their previous record was. We were 10-7 last year, and it's hard to see us winning 10 of the first 16 again. Again, not impossible...and if you guaranteed me that RG3 starting every game this year, then I think 10 wins becomes likely. But we don't know what we're going to get out of him in year two and I can't base a prediction that a team will overachieve its talent based on just a second year player. Although in the case where Griffin is healthy for every game and starts tearing down franchise passing records...yeah, then we'll win 12+ games (and likely go 6-0 in the division).
