Defensewins is right. They no longer repair ACLs since ligaments and tendons receive so little blood flow that the repair takes forever to heal and is weak at that. They just replace it leaving the bone caps to heal in place. Much better technique than in the past. It's why it used to take 2 years to "come back" and now it takes less than a year. It comes down to how fast your bones heal and how diligent and careful you are during recovery to keep the joint as in-shape as possible. Most of the recovery is spent ensuring the joint is restrengthened and suitable to protect the ligaments going forward.
