With that said I feel like the one criticism that keeps getting thrown Snyders way in spite of being most unfair is that he has continued to meddle with front office football decisions. I'd say he's actually been quite the opposite, as his involvement in football matters seems to be doing what fans wanted him to do all along, simply open up the vault and sign the checks when needed. Now maybe thats a product of Allen and Shanahan doing a great job of setting up boundaries, maybe its a product of Snyder taking a lot of the criticism to heart following the 2009 season, but regardless I think at this point its fair to say that his involvement in football decisions is limited at best. Certainly not much different than the level of involvement you see from guys like Kraft and Allen, at least in regards to football matters.

Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson
Yeah nothing at all
1) seemingly desirable proven player 2) smart franchise that makes more good personnel decisions than bad doesn't want him suddenly 3) franchise with a history of flashy big name off season championship winning moves that tend to blow up in their faces snapps him up. It's nothing at all like McNabb, one catches the ball and the other throws it... okay you win... Seriously it's like the guy in your FF league who always snapps up the last two years top performers and is shocked when he doesn't make the playoffs "But I had all the best players" That's Dan snyder's redskins and this off season is no different. The only question is will they get lucky and make me eat my words or will I be posting a hollow and not at all enjoyable "I told you so" at the end of the season to a bunch of people I totally commiserate with and wish weren't suffering through this bizarro-double-reverse-fecked-up-sports-version-of-groundhogs-day along with me. Maybe my fellow skins fans know this is doomed just like I do and they just want to cling to that false hope at the beginning of the "off season championship" despite knowing where it most likely will end up. Maybe that's all they have left. I envy anyone who can go into this season expecting more than a mediocre, media circus and player personnel soap opera filled embarrassment. It all started with "we're going to make RGIII a pocket passer" and got more preposterous from there. |

2) We traded multiple picks to get McNabb 3) Our offensive coordinator said he did not want McNabb 1) DeSean is just hitting his prime at 27 years old 2) We gave up zero picks to get him 3) The OC (and HC) strongly advocated going after him Anytime we get a "big name" player, out comes the "Well there goes Dan Snyder, playing fantasy football again" rants. Simply amazing

Circumstances of acquisition are relevant to who got excited and decided to go get the flashy big name how? 3) supports my contention that Snyder was over involved in the McNabb deal as well, thanks. Unfortunately the present coaching staff was hired by Snyder leading to two obvious conclusions... that they might not be that great at judging (based on past Snyder hires), and that they might be towing the company line... something that tends to happen around notoriously infantile Billionaires with short man complexes. I don't see material differences in these moves... just circumstantial ones. What matters is that in both cases a team (the same team as it turns out) that has a track record of savvy personnel moves no longer wanted the players, and a team with a history of flashy big name moves that fizzle and turn into media circuses DID want them (in both cases as it turns out). We shall see, I hope we see DeSean burning DB's and turning into a great signing. I expect to see some burnt DB's yes, but also some pouting under adversity, some over focus by the media on him, some ugly stories printed the night before big games... you know the usual... |

Regardless, I think we get your general point in that big FA moves don't always pan out, but at least we didn't set the franchise back a few picks. I personally think positions like WR or CB should translate on a different team. Most other positions may or may not pan out with different schemes, etc. I suspect DJax will be good if he stays healthy and RG3 can deliver the ball. |

Well don't pigeon hole it to sports media. I'm in sports media, I don't have that mentality. Others who aren't in it, do have that mentality

Re: Redskins Sign DeSean Jackson
lol. This maybe the one move that people will tie to Snyder that will work, at least I'm hoping, lol.
