It will anger me if the NFL fines and suspends Meriweather for the head-to head hit. I don't think he did anything wrong on the play. He was plenty low but the RB lowered his head at the last instant which is what caused the h-to-h hit.

I think the NFL is doing a terrible job of officiating this rule. The offensive player bears some responsibility for protecting himself, as well. This penalty should be reviewable and if the offensive player contributed to the h-to-h hit then the penalty should be waived.

Also, there have been many of these calls that I consider to be incidental. These have mostly involved hits on QB's where the QB's helmet is just grazed or tapped lightly as part of a clean play. Often, the player who is penalized is blocked into the QB. These plays should not be penalized.

The worst part of this poorly thought out and officiated rule is that the player who was penalized is invariably fined and suspended. This rule is simply unfair to the defense as it is currently enforced.
