Here is a play that stands out that most people would blame Polumbus for. While Polumbus does get beat, I want you to notice the pocket that is formed up front. A QB has to step up into the pocket to make those throws and buy himself time. Notice that Robert doesn't slide forward and hence the pressure. You can't expect Polumbus to block Watt on a 1 on 1 basis. Most of the time in the NFL, the QB has a way of making the OL look good.

Yes, you make a good, well-illustrated point. I think we need to be able to accept that there are many fundamentals of playing QB, especially in the NFL, that Robert hasn't yet learned. He got by largely on his exceptional talent before now. Now, he is being taught those fundamentals and he must learn them on the job. That means we're going to see uneven play from him for a while.

On the other hand, as he continues to develop his fundamentals and pairs those skills with his athletic gifts we should also start to see him make more big plays and fewer negative plays.

Although I have some concerns about his judgement and instincts as a QB at this point, I also believe that he is a bright man who is working hard to improve. He wants to be the best but he must develop a stronger foundation of QB skills in order to become the best. Once playing the position the right way becomes second nature to him, he can leave behind the over-thinking and hesitating and let his talent express itself.

I have no idea how long it might take for him to get to that point. It might even be next season. Nevertheless, I think he is good enough to win with right now as long as he and the other players eliminate the most egregious of the negative plays that have plagued us as a team.
