Re: Safe to watch a game in Philly?
Really, it's just not worth it. Period. All of the horror stories you hear are true. By wearing your colors or cheering for your team, you're just asking to get into a fight. Even if you have the thickest skin in the world and completely tune them all out, you're still going to get beer dumped on you and things thrown at you. If you try arguing with them, you're probably going to get into a fight. And the problem is, the "security" there will NOT help you until you are getting beaten by a number of "fans". They simply won't. They just sit there and laugh because that's what this city takes pride in.
Another factor is where you sit. If you get good seats, you'll be sitting around a much better (but still terrible) class of people. If you get up into the cheap seats, there really isn't any telling what will happen to you short of nobody has died yet. That's really not a joke either. Nobody has been killed yet, but that's about all I can say. So knowing that the best case scenario is you get your jersey ruined, heckled for 3+ hours, have a variety of things thrown at you, and get to hang out with the drunkest, most unreasonable idiots to actually follow an NFL team........and worst case scenario you end up in a hospital or in jail........I repeat my statement that it's just not worth it. Stay home and get a better view in a more comfortable, safe environment. Us skins fans have a chance (if we have friends who are Eagles fans and we go in a group), but Cowboys fans really don't. When I go, I wear a Penn State jersey and get glared at because I'm not wearing ugly Eagle green.
