Re: All things off season 2015.

IMO, it is definitely a bad trade for Philly. Few backs in the NFL are as hard to contain as McCoy. His explosiveness and versatility covered for the very average WR's on that team. Now, with less of a running threat, the Philly offense is going to have more trouble moving the ball.

Also, I think Philly could and should have gotten more for McCoy. Alonzo is not equivalent value, IMO. They probably would have gotten more if Kelly wasn't so focused on bringing in former Oregon players. On top of that, Alonzo is coming off of a serious injury, so his play will probably be adversely affected by that this coming season.

But I'm all for the trade because it's good for us. Keep up the good work, Chip!

Apparently Alonso has had two ACLs and one Torn Labrum all in the past four years.

I would imagine its almost like Chip said cool I can get a player I know and dump this huge contract. Instead of just flat out releasing him

Still it is very risky, but I almost wonder if he cleared space to attempt to sign a guy like Murray

my dream scenario is they cleared all that cap to re sign their QB, aka Dirty Sanchise

Also they get rid of Trent Cole a team leader instead of re working his deal and Cary Williams...a very solid CB.

These are huge gambles in which history shows dont work out.

Anybody remember Andy Reid clearing a bunch of cap space 4-5 years ago and then going on a spending spree? Anybody remember Spurrier bringing only in his ex florida players?

Interesting folks seem to forget recent history
I don't get the whole "look at the cap space they will have" comments on Twitter. I think of teams like Tampa and Oakland which always seem to have a lot of money to spend, yet that doesn't result in wins.

Some are saying they wanted to deal him for picks but there were simply no worthwhile offers.

Chip Kelly continues to display his desire to have as many former Oregon players as he can get. That makes me think that he will do whatever it takes to move up in the draft to select Mariota. Some team is going to fleece him so badly on draft day that he'll be wearing a barrel before the 10th pick is made. I'm going to enjoy that.
Remind you of a certain Visor wearing head coach we once had.

Profootball talk saying Eagles prefer Mark Ingram and will go after him. Mark Ingram's career long run is 35 yards set his rookie year and seems to miss games every year due to injury. All I can say is my fingers are crossed.

That's odd. You'd think that Shady fits Kelly's system better than Ingram.

Re: All things off season 2015.

So the Eagles are unloading players in their prime to stockpile money for FA spending, while the Redskins are playing mellow looking to rebuild through the draft....?

What year did I just wake up in!?!?!?

Hopefully this is the beginning of a turnaround in our division.

Re: All things off season 2015.

Did the Eagles get any draft picks along with this trade? Otherwise, I just don't see the logic in it? I am going to be extremely upset if this somehow, magically, works out for the Eagles. This is straight up Vinny Cerrato/Steve Spurrier territory.

Re: All things off season 2015.

So I hear we re-signed Ihenacho. Isn't he the guy that tore his ACL about 30 seconds after we signed him from the Broncos? Geez, we have a tendency to go after fragile safties (Thomas, Merriweather, Ihenacho). Fragility is not something one would or should associate with that position.

Well, if we're re-signing these guys to heavily incentive-based contracts, then I'm more than OK with that. We need to be building through the draft anyway, and chances are, if there is a highly valuable safety out there in FA, then he wants a healthy contract.

I don't disagree with this at all, but we've had a lot of guys in the secondary with significant injury and who have missed significant time (Ihenacho, Thomas, Hall, Merriweather, Porter, T. Robinson). I realize a few of these folks won't be back, but looking at FAs that also have significant injury histories -- including the news about Tyvon Branch coming in for a visit; he's played in only 5 games the last 2 years -- doesn't seem terribly wise, as even these low risk contracts begin to add up.

Fractured heal, not an ACL.

At his price he'll have to earn a spot. No big risk for the team.
