if you think he has proven he deserves a middle level contract you are delusional. The guy has one play on his highlight video- the guy is a sleeper, who appears to be getting minimal interested- there is no reason to pay him $3 or $4 million a year.

Rahim Moore got $ 4 million a year- Patrick Chung got $2.7 million

Seattle slapped a second round tender on him last year as a RFA which entitled him to a salary of ~$2.2M although he restructured the deal. Bottom line, he was making close to 2.0M last year. He is looking for a place to start b/c he has been stuck behind Chancellor/Thomas but I seriously doubt he is willing to take a pay cut to do so.

As I said, folks have been talking about him since before the market opened. Here is a good break down on him (from February):

"Hasn't gotten a ton of action because of the players in front of him (Kam Chancellor, Earl Thomas), but when he's played he's been solid. He's a box safety more than anything -- strong against the run, a strong tackler, physical, tenacious," Kelly said. "He's a mainstay on special teams. Is useful in "big nickel" situations where you want a little more speed without sacrificing too much in tackling ability. It's tough to know how good he'd be in a starting role because he's rarely played."

Kelly does expect Johnson to seek a team where he could compete for a starting job.

"The Seahawks probably will make him a lowish offer but he's said that while he's loved it in Seattle, he wants to start somewhere, so it's likely he'll look for a new team," Kelly said.

Other teams that could be in play for Johnson include the Jacksonville Jaguars, where former Seattle defensive coordinator Gus Bradley is head coach, and the Washington Redskins. New Washington GM Scot McCloughan was a member of the Seattle personnel department when Johnson was signed.

Several twitter insider folks have been talking about this guy for a while and are now saying that several teams have an interest in him:

So, has he "proven he deserves a middle level contract"? I concede he has not done so by his play - mainly b/c he has been stuck behind a couple of pro-bowlers. However, is he likely to get such a contract from someone based on his apparent reputation amongst the football people who are paid to know these things and appear to be interested in him according to the people who are paid to find out things from the football people.

If the Skins want to sign him, I would suggest it will have to be for a contract that is, at a minimum, in the $2-3M/year range and possibly approaching the $4M/year range with incentives. Bottom line, if Scot McC thinks he's worth it, I am more than good with it.
