Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...

I would trade Kerrigan for AJ Green (again, the current player to whom most talent evaluators compare Cooper) straight up. Tomorrow. Love Kerrigan, but AJ Green is a game changer in a way Kerrigan just is not.

... and to be clear, if Cinci called and said "Kerrigan for Green", you would turn them down cold?

I only used Fowler as he seems to be the most highly rated OLB. As to Beasley, if you believe he is the talent equivalent of Cooper - fine. Again, there has been much concern expressed about Beasley strength, if you believe it is not to a concern, okay.

If the choice is Beasley v. Cooper, which do you think has the greater chance at being a successful pro? Don't give me the "it's anybody's guess" "I'm not a talent evaluator" "I can't tell the future" "you can't compare the two" blah blah blah. It's a simple question, and I am not even asking your rationale. I just want your armchair, Monday morning, fan boy GM call: In 10 years, who do you think people are more likely to say was the better player?

As a follow-up, same "No BS" caveats, and out of the likely top 5 or 6 players: In 10 years, who do you think people are likely to say was a better player than Cooper?

Not surprised, coming from you.

Well yeah, when you frame it like that it sounds bad. But he wouldn't be expected to play rushing downs as a rookie, and he has the ability to make a huge impact as a pass rusher right away.

Coming from me? What does that mean?

Calvin Johnson
Antonio Brown
Dez Bryant
Jordy Nelson
Julio Jones
Demaryius Thomas
DeSean Jackon (If he didn't already play for us)
Odell Beckham Jr. (A rookie, yes but all signs point to game changing elite WR in the making)
Alshon Jeffery
T.Y. Hilton (A push, but based of his first 2 seasons I could see the argument made)

And Randall Cobb and Emmanuel Sanders are pushes
Brandon Marshall, Andre Johnson, and Steve Smith if they were younger

Dez Bryant and his TDs are the only one I would trade for for sure. Maybe Green or Megatron. But the point I was trying to make was that even though Kerrigan may not be as "talented" as those receivers he's still more valuable because of the position he plays.

I think they'll both be successful. But I also think Beasley has a better chance of being worthy of #5.

I value pass rush over receivers. Is that weird?

No, what's weird is that you say you would keep an above average at best pass rusher to this point in his career of a top 3 WR in the game. I love Kerrigan as much as the next guy but that seems a tad bit extreme

Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...

take it to a neutral team, not looking at it from a Skins perspective, how many teams, given the option, would take Megatron, versus taking Kerrigan. I feel confident that more that 28 would take Megatron, and the same for JR's list down to Beckham. After that more might waiver based on the need their team has. That's the same philosophy that (hopefully) we see in the draft this year.

If there is a player whose rank outranks that of the BPA at a need position, you take the outstanding guy. If the outstanding guy outshines the next BPA, but a team offers you value above where you think the outstanding guy is (ie 2 1st's and 1 2nd for a guy you think is middle 1st) then you take the trade.

I am hoping that SM is given full reign to decide if the BPA guy is better than the trade is better than the BPA-Need guy. or whichever way it works.

Re: With the 5th pick in the draft the Washington Redskins select...

Scot McCloughan's blueprint could mean Dante Fowler Jr. or Vic Beasley - Washington Redskins Blog - ESPN

Quote:
In other words, he doesn’t want to select a player at an area they don’t have an immediate hole. Like receiver, for example. There is no doubt that West Virginia’s Kevin White and Alabama’s Amari Cooper are two of the best players in the draft. Both could help Washington, giving them two players who can hurt teams after the run, and both are considered excellent workers. But though receiver might be a need a year from now (maybe not), what the Redskins need there now is depth. That can be found in the middle rounds. If they are far and away the best? That’s one thing. But in the first round McCloughan likes to draft best player -- at area of need. That’s not a 100 percent rule, but it is a general one.

What McCloughan will want is someone who can contribute in a big way immediately. Again, if they stay at No. 5, that likely means one of the edge rushers. If they trade back, there are good options along the offensive line for immediate contributors.
Came across this nugget while catching up on Keim's blog. Thoughts?

No. Wr's can be found anywhere. Pass rushers can not.

That's a lie. Any position can be found anywhere. Let's not act like if you don't draft a pass rusher in the top 10, then that player will suck
