Cutting Griffin would cost us the exact same as if he was on the roster. There is no additional hit to be had. His contract is guaranteed so its the same either way. If his cap hit for this year is 6.7 mil (which sounds about right but I honestly dont know the exact number), then he costs 6.7 mil if he is on the roster. If we cut him, he still counts 6.7 mil against the cap due to his contract being guaranteed. There is no extra hit to our cap. Its just whether that salary is for a roster player or we are paying it to someone no longer on the roster (aka dead money).

So if we have 8.6 mil available on our cap now, and we cut Griffin. Then we have 8.6 mil still available with one more roster spot to pay for.
