Re: Week 3: Redskins v Giants

I'm not sure why people are calling this a trap game. "Trap game" implies that this team is considered significantly better than the Giants and are perhaps looking ahead to a more superior opponent or more meaningful game with the Eagles.

Neither is true, at least so far as we know right now.

I do know that the Giants should have beat Dallas in their house to open the season - and that is no small task. I don't know how good the Falcons will be this year, but they should have won that game too. They have their weaknesses, but so do the Redskins. Nope, wouldn't consider this a trap game at all...just a tough division game on the road that can be won if they play like they did last week.

There is a lot of BS reporting circulating this team (according to Captain Obvious). Even after a nice win - all of a sudden RG3 and Kirk can't even be in the same room. hahaha - @ anonymous reporters...

I think this current team with its current leadership are able to tune that crap out. Doesn't mean they like it, but they can acknowledge it, dismiss it and get on with business.

Re: Week 3: Redskins v Giants

Of the many ....many frustrating things about the Skins in recent years (did I say MANY things), it is the fact we came not to....matter. Nobody in the media referred to us in a positive light of any kind if at all. THAT is changing. We are beginning to get some well deserved love from the media. Most importantly, we are beginning to matter once more.
Good for the guys to get some well deserved positive press.......

Hope they just stay consistent, don't care about winning as much.

Schefter, one of the few that I really respect in the national media, has been saying for months now that the skins would make noise. He actually had them potentially making playoffs.

His reasoning was he knows scot, his people and his friends around the league.

Re: Week 3: Redskins v Giants

I'm still very concerned about the play of our ST's. In the last game, Crowder fumbled a punt deep in our territory (but he got it back) and Way shanked a punt at a critical time in the game when we were pinned back against our goal line (the D bailed him out).

Crowder is not using good judgement on when to call for a fair catch, IMO. He's too keen on the idea of breaking a return and not concerned enough about ball security. Way just seemed to foul up at a bad time (choke?).

IMO, we lost our first game because of poor ST play and we had some bad ST plays that fortunately didn't cost us in our second game. But we're just not good enough to overcome ST disasters. I think the Giants are going to challenge us with a couple of surprises on ST.

we need to block their gunners on punts much better. they have been getting down the field way to easy

As far as Way is concerned, they were specifically asking him not to kick it as far as normal due to Tavon Austin being the returner. When you ask a player to completely change up his technique that he has been using his whole life, a mistake is bound to happen. You dont just change someones way of doing things and expect immediate perfection. Its never going to work out that way.

Keys to a win....

Pressure - absolutely need to.pressure eli... Throw.in some run blitzs and cover 2 schemes becuz they will.be.drawing and screening I'm sure, if we don't get pressure, eli is much better than the.qbs we have faced and he will pick us apart, like he always does...

Continue to pound the ball. Enough said.

Use more screens, they WILL be blitzing often on kirk to try n force mistakes... So combat it with screens and maybe some read option type runs and some pitches to the outside, set the edge on offense...

No special teams errors, just can't afford it...

Control the clock, and wear them down.

Practice with noise, its gonna be loud tomorow.night....

Must win for them, we need to play with heart, fight our guts out and control the game...

Agreed on all accounts. This game is going to set the tone for the rest of the season for both teams. The hungrier team will win.

"We're going inside of ‘em, we're going outside of ‘em -- inside of ‘em! outside of ‘em! -- and when we get them on the run once, we're going to keep ‘em on the run. And we're not going to pass unless their secondary comes up too close. But don't forget, men -- we're gonna get ‘em on the run, we're gonna go, go, go, go! -- and we aren't going to stop until we go over that goal line! And don't forget, men -- today is the day we're gonna win. They can't lick us -- and that's how it goes... The first platoon men -- go in there and fight, fight, fight, fight, fight! What do you say, men!"

I would agree here. The defense bailed out that shank. We almost had a punt blocked as well. Teams still continues to be a struggle.

Re: Week 3: Redskins v Giants

In the first game last year Larry Donnell had a field day against our LB's. Could be a fantasy sleeper! He just abused Riley. I'm sure they'll be looking at that matchup again.

Except that Riley is probably not going to play Thursday.

More relevant, informative material from "The Media."

Jamison Crowder always seeking big punt return for Washington Redskins - Washington Redskins Blog - ESPN

As for Way's kicks, Gruden said in his post game presser that they were kicking away from Austin and that caused Way to lose yardage on his punts. In other words, I don't think Way choked; rather, I think he is likely not a very good directional kicker yet.
