Most QB's with good protection (even terrible protection in Eli's case) are playing till 38-40 (Brees just signed a 2 year extension at 39) AND AS has definitely improved the last few years including his deep ball. If anything, Alex Smith is liken to Rich Gannon. Gannon played his best football in his twilight years of his career. Smith has steadily gotten better and has seen no decline in his play. Instead, his career has trended upward.

I think people will always second guess the moves this franchise makes until they win a Super Bowl. We have to question every little thing. Keenum could very well be a one-hit wonder. Alex Smith has proven that he can take a team to multiple playoff appearances. He's more athletic than Keenum and fits this offense better. It was an outstanding move by our FO to make the play for Alex Smith. Had we not gotten him and wound up with Teddy Bridgewater, can you just imagine the bitching we would've heard from fans?
