I know it isn't ideal, but a loss can actually motivate a team to improve and work harder later (in practice and in a game). Don't get me wrong - the loss was a devastating loss and I never believe in giving up, but from this point on, it will be how the redskins respond to this adversity. That will be the true measure of what kind of team this is.
I have an example that's not really similar to this game, but it is an example of how losing can help to improve the team. A couple of years back a previous superbowl winner lost to one of weaker teams: 17-20 and the losing qb was so frustrated - he cried after the game. But after this game, the qb and the team improved so considerably that the rest of the team for the rest of the season were forced to take notice.
Who was this team that lost? ... the New England Patriots lost against the Redskins in week 4 in 2003. This team won every game the rest of the year and of course won the superbowl that year and also became the 2004 superbowl winners. The crying quarterback was a superbowl mvp and the team is now considered a dynasty. Do I think this one loss propelled them to greatness ? yes, I'd like to think so.

Either Burnell should have finished the game, or the "quarterback of the future" should have taken his place. Personally, I think Burnell should have finished what he started. If he had gotten hurt, then so what. Who on the coaching staff would have given a crap if Ramsey had gotten hurt.
First of all, welcome to the board!

As far as Ramsey shouldn't have been put into the game?? I don't get why you're saying what you're saying. Ramsey is a football player - a well paid one at that! No one's there to babysit Patrick Ramsey and to be sure he's emotionally okay and if his feelings are hurt.

You're making Ramsey's entrance into the game something it's not. This isn't about feelings or emotions or some reality TV show, it's about football. Really who cares what Gibbs or anyone else told him in the past. And for the record, Patrick Ramsey is still a part of Joe Gibbs' plans for '05- it's just as a second string quarterback, that's all. This is about the Redskins, not Mark Brunell or Patrick Ramsey...or even Joe Gibbs for that matter. It's about the team and the fans that support them.

Joe Gibbs job, among other things, is to prepare this team. Part of that is to have, who he believes are the right players in place to give this team the best chance to win. And if you ask me, so far this year he's done a pretty damn good job.

If he and the coaches think Ramsey should start taking snaps in the fourth quarter, then so be it. It's really that simple - it really is. It's nothing personal. Also, I think if it were up to Brunell he would have finished the
game - but it wasn't.

And exactly how is it so okay if Brunell get's hurt?? You can't be serious, can you? Seems you are taking the situation a little out of context.

Re: Make a bed, lay in it.

i consider myself a very knowledgeable football fan but now im scratching my head.i have never heard such an assnine discussion.will someone please fill me in on why you would leave your starting qback in the second half of a blowout loss(or win for that matter)and take a risk of injury when your barely half way thru the season?i could see leaving brunell in lokger if it was a playoff game, but come on,lets get real

Re: Make a bed, lay in it.

SBF, I know this may be an old subject, (and I havent read every post in here) but like most people here, I don't know why Ramsey coming in was a shocker, or why that would upset anyone. I definately don't think Ramsey could be upset coming into that game. NOONE would consider him a whipping boy. The game was lost. If anything he got to come in under a no-pressure situation and get an opportunity to show the coaches something to get his job back. It may be that those opportunities are the only ones he gets to audition for his starting job here, or another team.

I just don't see how you could mistake what happened with anyone putting any blame on Ramsey for that game.

Re: Make a bed, lay in it.

Exactly it was an oppportunity fr Ramsey to show what he could do ... the game may have been lost but we were still driving down to the last play, it is opportunities like this Ramsey needs to get some playing time. This argument is stupid but I and I don't think anyone else is saying the poster is stupid

Re: Make a bed, lay in it.

Questions: Is not Jason Campbell the quarterback of the future? If so, just when is he suppose to see any action? As for Ramsey, many on this coaching staff have indicated and/or stated that Ramsey cannot get the job done. Maybe I am a little naive, but by sending Ramsey into any game at any time, has not the coaching staff sent a message to the rest of the players that, for all practical purposes the game is over and the Redskins "give up"? As for Burnell, someone please tell me once again why he is making the big bucks?

I would think that at some point Campbell should get some snaps in a game but for now he is still the third string QB. The choaches never said Ramsey could not get the job done they just thought that Brunell gives us a better chance of winning and so far I would have to say they are right. We would all probably agree that Brunell is over paid but that is all history and mistakes we have made in the past.

Re: Make a bed, lay in it.

As for the coaches never saying that Ramsey could not get the job done:

Go back and listen, if it is available, to a comment made by Joe Bugel. To paraphrase: "Finally, we have someone who can get the ball to the receivers". If I am not mistaken, this comment was made during an interview following the first game! Am I missing something here? It certainly sounded to me as though Bugel was saying that Ramsey could not get the job done. Hey look everyone -- I have no problem with Ramsey "riding the pine". It just seems to me that if the Redskins are building a team for both the future as well as the present, then get on with it!

Re: Make a bed, lay in it.

Regardless of what may or may not have been said, Ramsey is still an important part of the team and Gibbs has said nothing to the contrary.

He's the #2 QB and he'll be the first QB to see time when Brunell is out of the game. Campbell doesn't figure in to the short term plans of the team, despite what the media said during the preseason.

Question Re: Make a bed, lay in it.

I'm not sure what the problem is. Any team would put in its backup qb when they're down in the 4th 36-0.
