Well, in some ways, it is worse - just not maybe the way in which Trump is talking about. I don't believe the owners HAD to institute any new anthem rules, they could have just let this die down like it was already doing toward the end of the season.

However, while the % is skewed in terms of the ratings drop (probably not 20% according to Trump), the truth is, the NFL has had some ratings drop, and the NFL does need to look into why the ratings are dropping. Personally, I think the ratings drop is more about an over-saturation of the product rather than CTE or the politics. And I do agree with Trump when it comes to Goodell. You're paying this guy $40M, and how often do we complain about his direction as an NFL commissioner?

Truth is, the sport may have lost the casual fan, but it's the hardcore football fans that keep the sport going. But if you start losing the hardcore fan, you'd better revamp the product.
