6 years means a Justice would serve through at least 3 elections and 1 presidential. SO since we know politics are a factor in Justices decisions to retire, they would have some ability to look at the current political state and decide when they want to retire. If you want to say 10 years, so they can make it through a 2 term presidency that would work to, at 75 the lifetime appointment rolls to a 10 year service with a retirement date of their 85th birthday.
