Plus the defense played right around the 12-9 ranked in the league the first half....not bad. But the second half of the year it fell off to around 20-25 in the league. It had an impact.

Despite of what fans think, Alex gave the team confidence and leadership (Keim tweeted about this). I think the lack of confidence by the team, was partly responsible for the breakdown we've seen. I'm not justifying it, especially with the defense, given that they were relatively healthy, but it happened.
