You're assuming that passing the ball would have been an automatic first down. You're also assuming that lining up 8 or 9 men the box only stops the run. You're assuming that Brunell is going to have enough time to get the pass to his receivers. You're not taking into account how fast the defensive ends for TB are. You don't think they'd be ready for a short pass to the flat? You're also not taking into consideration how we ran over top of Tampa's defense all day.



That is the same arugment with running the ball. If we don't get the first down, we keep the clock rolling and we punt the ball away and let our defense bail us out. It's better to give an offense with an inexperienced quarterback less time on the clock to score a TD rather than to give him an extra minute dontcha think? It's foolish to think otherwise.



So tell me again how long you have been coaching in the NFL and how many Super Bowl appearances and trophies you've won again? I think this is where you're question fits into the best.....did you even watch the game?

This doesn't go along with what you just stated earlier. You said that we'd have to rely on our defense either way, so how can it be a last resort? Again, there is no way you can prove to me that passing the ball would have given us an automatic first down. I can certainly prove to you that as long as Portis holds onto the ball and doesn't go out of bounce, the clock continues to run regardless if we get the first down or not...and running the clock out when you're leading in the game is an obvious strategy that any sensible coach is going to want to do.

I don't no what to tell you exept I think you learned football in the twilight zone somewhere.

So throwing wouldn't have worked even though running on the #1 defense against the run would have? Our weekest strength against their strongest strength, always a good matchup.

Further more a role out would have taken advantage of the over pursuit of Rice, in case you didn't notice it worked earlier in the second half.

Point out to me the short yardage runs we have made over the last year and a half in crucial situations goal line, and with the game on the line, I find it pointless to look for something that's just not there even though you say it is, please enlighten me. Bears, philli, Tampa, the second dallas game last year, the opening game against tampa last year, just off the top of my head are all games we gave the ball back when a simple first down would have iced the game when a team was within 1 score of tying, or beating us. Didn't we winde up giving the ball back to Dallas the last time we played them with our big comeback?
