Well, I for one sure hope you are right, and that the past will be forgotten. The last time around, the Redskins matched up great against the Giants, but it always seemed that Gibbs got outcoached by Parcells in almost every meeting. These guys are both great coaches, but I feel strongly, Gibbs is (and was then) the absolute best coach in the game. He just seemed to have a mental thing about Parcells. You could tell it by the comments he would make leading up to each Giant game, and you could tell it by the game plans. Gibbs was VERY good at taking advantage of an opponent's weakness. But against the Giants, he would invariably come up with a game plan that NO ONE would expect. It seemed as though he was always trying to out-think and surprise Parcells, but would end up playing into the strengths of his team.
I hope, and fully expect, that with this fresh start and clean slate, that Joe Gibbs will have put all of that to bed, and go in with a fresh outlook. It is my belief that with the offseason each of these teams has had, if Gibbs just coaches straight up in his normal approach against the Cowboys, we will come out on top. We match up very well against them. They do not appear to have the QB to be able to take advantage of our only apparent defensive weakness, and our offense should be able to score on anyone this year. Gibbs may be as old as dirt (same age as me!!), but he is very energetic, excited, VERY smart, and skillful. There is no doubt here that he will get the Skins back on top.
