Re: Alex Smith’s Amazing Comeback(?)

I think all the posts do a good job of laying out the "what if" scenarios. Theres good arguments to ride with Alex next year and good arguments to draft a QB. I think it comes down to personal choice.

I think we still have a lot of future unknown events that will dictate the decision.

1. Can Alex Smith stay healthy and finish the season not on IR? Thats not a given and if he tears an ACL or something, he'd be 37 next year and miss TC etc.

2. Assuming we are out of the Lawrence-fields sweepstakes and land the no. 5-10 pick, do we have a high enough grade on Wilson or Lance to take them vs a LT/LB/CB?

3. Maybe something stunning happens in FA and a Drew Brees is available ..

---------

Im fine with drafting a QB, going with Alex or going a vet FA route.

I do expect to be .500 or better next year.

Alex smith contract -- 24.4M cap hit for 2021, if we cut him hes a 10.8 dead cap hit (but wed free up 13.6M)
