At dinner last week I asked my daughter what she did in school and she said she watched some stuff about MLK. So we talked about civil rights and I told her that "he accelerated civil rights and we would not be where we are today in treating everyone equal without him" .. and as the words left my mouth, my brain was like "really dude? like we are so far ahead of where we were in the 60s compared to right now and everything that is going on? have we even progressed one inch since the 60s?"

Disappointed she couldnt remember anything about MLK that she had just learned ...

I told her her existence as a half black half white human being would have been illegal in America 60 years ago. She didnt seem to understand. Then we talked about Loving v Virginia and had a pretty good talk.
