Samuels vs Rice

We have played the Bucs 3 times in the past 3 or 4 years and for some reason I never see Samuels doing a pro bowl job against him. I remember under spurrier... Rice had 4 sacks I think and we lost the game by a touchdown or so. Even this year I think Rice had a sack or two, does anyone see any reason why Rice would do worse this game?

Re: Samuels vs Rice

In defense of Samuels, in that Spurrier game, only 1 or at most 1.5 of Rice's sacks were attributable to Samuels. The other two were a result of Spurrier and the O-line genius Kim Helton matching a tight-end directly one-on-one with Rice, which is suicide.

I do, however, share your concern - Samuels against Rice will be a key match-up in this game.

Rice literally broke Robert Royal's hip 2 years ago w/ a move.

The year Spurrier was here was basically Samuels worst year as a pro. In addition to that, he was fighting some nagging ankle/knee injuries which contributed.

I think big Chris will keep him check this time around.

Re: Samuels vs Rice

I think Chris handles him this week with some "chip" blocking by Portis, Betts and Cooley/Royal in motion. They may let him run up the field a couple times early then run a quick sprint draw on his side of the field to slow him down a little as well.

Man, speaking of Portis - did anyone else see him flatten, I mean FLATTEN, Dahani Jones!!! I don't ever remember seeing a linebacker get it like that on a blitz!!

Rice killed us in the first game. We gotta stop him (and the rest of their line).

Go Dirtbags!
