Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
I think Buffalo consider it but I doubt it without a clear upgrade lined up. With their history (Marv Levy coached 4 SB losses) I reckon they'll think twice. But he's likely on thin ice if he can't leverage Allen's best years with a real run at the SB next year.

Different owner same history. But agree their current window is closing, especially with the Pats resurgence.

Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Titans-
Giants- Hire former Ravens coach John Harbaugh Falcons- Hire former Browns coach Kevin Stefanski Browns- Raiders- Cardinals- Dolphins- Ravens- Steelers- Bills- Retread hire- 2 Newbie hire- I knew this would happen. Bills fire McDermott. So 10 changes in all. Think the Bills are slightly ahead of the Ravens; as the best remaining job openings. Last edited by 88Commanders00; 01-19-2026 at 08:29 PM. |

Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Bills are the final expected opening for this cycle. 10 is pretty high.
Hot seat Jan. 2027: 1. Commanders - Dan Quinn 2. Eagles- Nick Sirianni 3. Bucs- Todd Bowles 4. Colts- Shane Steichen 5. Jets- Aaron Glenn 6. Bengals- Zac Taylor - well only if he has nothing left on his contract. Brown to cheap to him; if Bengals fail again. This cycle took out a lot of long tenure coaches. Next year should be a low number of openings. |

Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Happy to admit I was wrong. Now expecting McDermott to go to the Ravens or Steelers, though if not it would be good to get him as DC (and heir apparent to DQ?), however unlikely.

I wonder which one is easier: Hiring an offensive head coach and then finding a good DC? Hiring a defensive head coach and then finding a good OC? My guess it’s easier to hire an offensive head coach because there are a lot of good DCs out there but there aren’t as many good OCs. |

Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
McDermott should have no problem getting a new hc job soon. Very surprised he's gone in Buffalo honestly, but it is what it is. Curious to see who Buffalo gets as I imagine it may be an offensive guy for Allen.

Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
Talk of whether they could get Tomlin. Pedigree is there of course but would Tomlin's style work? Could he turn the D around? Get an OC to get the best out of Allen? Does Tomlin even want a HC job again without a break?

Tomlin has sucked picking OC in recent years. Tomlin is taking a year off.

Re: The annual NFL coaching carousel
This could be defining for McDaniel. He'll have worked with 2 of the top 3 QB's to come out of the 2020 draft. If he can't turn Herbert into a winner in the playoffs, does it show his limitations as an OC or the fact those QB's were overrated? If he can, and Tua bombs wherever he goes, does it vindicate McDaniel the HC? After all he didn't draft Tua.
