TJ would be a wasted roster spot and contract.
I heard from a few different NFL Network or ESPN guys saying that Atlanta is shopping him and it will probably be for a low round draft choice. He's under contract, the skins would only need to resign him to a new deal if they wanted to.

The skins do have a lot of good backs, but it's a fact that none of the current backs excell in short yardage situations. if they did they would not have been in shot gun half the time in short yardage situations. I only want Ducket for short yardage and goaline...I am not sugesting that Portis should lose a significant portion of his carries.

only to retire as a redskin...

seriously, we won't find out if nemo can be another young davis without playing him. even at vet minimum he is too expensive

I think the answer is still a big fat no. He doesn't have much left.
the panthers paid a lot for 1 quality season plus a couple of games from davis

The short yardage back the skins should try and aquire is TJ Ducket who Atlanta is shopping in trade right now. He can probably be had for a mid to low round draft choice.
duckett has a lot of potential but i think he want to go somewhere he has a chance to start.

Stephen Davis is certainly done as an every down back, but in short yardage he still looks like a beast. Trust me, I was in Carolina this season.
davis is more like dayne than he is like bettis.. even at the end bettis had marvelous footwork- something davis never really had, even in his prime. that is what made bettis special- a hall of famer for certain

Re: Stephen Davis

cartwright actually has a crazy percentage in 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1 situations. its more because he's small and got some leverage than because he's running people over though. duckett could choose to withhold services (no training camp etc) if he didn't get a new deal (and he'd probably like more guaranteed money), but he might not.

I just don't think its a huge need. sellers or nemo should eb able to do it, but we haven't seen them attempt it much (sellers got one carry and on 4th and 1 he got 1 yard and a TD out of it). a 6th or 7th could always be used to sign a new punter

that's actually something bettis had to learn. his few few seasons he just ran right into people, but he had to learn some moves cause of how sore he was getting from all the abuse. He probably explained it better in his pre-superbowl interview story they ran like 500 times... i just thought it was interesting.

Re: Stephen Davis

bettis also mentioned that when he was in st louis b/c all he did was run into people they wanted him to convert into a fullback and bettis obviously was like heck no...............besides another receiver, punter, kicker, depth at Ol, i think we could really use a pure blocking fullback and tight end something we can gget both in the draft......even tho portis said his favorite person to see in front of him blocking is sellars and even tho sellars had an amazing season in the endzone i would love to see a bigger faster and younger fullback....thats what larry johnson and priest had in KC ie. tony richardson

Stephen Davis? What is going on around here? He isn't worth a roster spot at minimum salary.

I will never forgive him for fumbling that Dallas game away.

Come on the guy isn't that bad. He pretty much gave up his body the entire time he was here. The only reason we've been able to forget about him is the fact that Portis is more versatile (blocking, catching, and running) and younger. Its not his fault that Spurrier decided that throwing to his Florida cronies was a better gameplan than feeding Davis the rock. Ironically that might have given Davis a few more years.

As far as bringing him back. I don't think its a good idea. I think his career is over and bringing him back to Washington will kinda be a slap in the face being that he'll be behind Portis. We already stabed him once, we don't need to do it again.
