Garcia To Back Up McNabb

The Eagles agreed to a one-year contract with free agent quarterback Jeff Garcia to have the veteran back up Donovan McNabb. Both have clashed with Owens in the past, so they'll have plenty to discuss.

The Eagles also have reached a one-year agreement with free agent wide receiver Jabar Gaffney, formerly of the Houston Texans. The club was able to work out the deal with Rosenhaus, who represents Gaffney. Gaffney is a cousin of Eagles cornerback Lito Sheppard.

Philadelphia also re-signed free agent wideout Darnerien McCants. . . .

Linebacker Willie McGinest, released by New England, reunited with Romeo Crennel, the former Patriots defensive coordinator who's now Cleveland's head coach, by agreeing to a three-year, $12 million contract with the Browns that includes $6 million in guaranteed money. The busy Browns also signed free agent guard Bob Hallen, formerly of San Diego. . . .

Free agent linebacker Nate Webster left Cincinnati by agreeing to a two-year, $1.5 million deal with Denver that includes a $200,000 signing bonus. . . . The Bengals re-signed safety Anthony Mitchell. . . . Green Bay re-signed wideout Rod Gardner and offensive tackle Kevin Barry, both unrestricted free agents, and defensive lineman Kenny Peterson, a restricted free agent. The Packers also added defensive tackle Ryan Pickett, an unrestricted free agent from St. Louis. . . . Seattle re-signed wide receiver Peter Warrick and defensive tackle Rocky Bernard. . . . The Lions re-signed running back Shawn Bryson. . . . Pittsburgh re-signed tight end Jerame Tuman and offensive tackle Barrett Brooks. . . . Safety Chris Hope left the Steelers via free agency by agreeing to a six-year contract with Tennessee. . . . Walt Harris, a cornerback released by the Redskins, agreed to a deal with San Francisco.
