Re: Will CP benefit from Al and the Recievers?

Last season, Portis ran extremely well from spread formations which we can expect to see more of in 2006.

He won't be running as often in predictable down and distance situations, so his YPC should go up.

However, he will get fewer carries. During our win streak at the end of the year, we were really pounding him in the running game.

I don't think we can predict production numbers at this point since it all depends on how well our QB runs the offense. At Kansas City, Trent Green stayed in the pocket and was well protected. At 36, I can't see Mark Brunell morphing into a pocket passer where his height and his flat, shoulder-high delivery are disadvantages.

Saunders can adapt to Brunell's tendency to leave the pocket quickly to roll left and throw short...but that defeats the strategy of stretching and spreading the field. The other problem with that is that defenses learned to counter Brunell's rollouts last season...one reason (not the only one) why the production of our passing game fell off sharply after the San Francisco game.

Campbell's talents are better suited to the system but he hasn't taken a snap in an NFL game.
