Endzone Celebrations

I agree with the rules. I think it takes away from the TEAM aspect of the game. Spike the ball what ever, but all the individual crap that TO, Johnson, Smith, the over the top crap should stop. You want to jump in the end zone fan area, cool, or thump you chest what ever I can take that. But the Ray Lewis re enactment by TO, and the crap Johnson pulls has to stop. Its just a ploy to market themselves and get TV time. What I would also like to see stopped is all the dancing and crap defensive players make after making a tackle. I mean these guys are jumping around dancing when they stop someone after a 6 yard gain. that to me isn't anything to get all jacked up about. That actually annoys me more than the endzone crap. I have to admit, the cartwheels portis did last year was funny as hell. but that is part of the stuff that needs to be curtailed abit.

Emotion is great in football, but seriously to get up and dance the iccy shuffle after tackling a guy after a 6 yard gain or longer. You have to admit the celebrating after a tackle or a normal play is getting out of hand. Especially guys making tackles, dancing around, and are actually losing the game by 3 or 4 scores.

Emotion and excessive TD celebrations are totally different things.

I have no problem with some TD celebrations, but I think the league is looking to nip this in the bud before it gets too out of hand.

I understand that's why they threw the flag, but really I think it was just Smoot reacting to Washington. See, I'm down for celebration as long as it's not malicious to the other team (even though I don't care, but if they're talking about compromise). I don't just want to see a spike and that's it.

The problem with limiting what a player can do after a TD could lead to a Ref's interpretation of what they call a celebration. I like the old fashion spike or running across the end zone with the ball held up but I feel they should not stop the others. We have enough rules as it is. Now TO doing Ray's dance was pretty funny.

Right, thats why I would love to see the "Fun Bunch" high-five come back, it just helps out the team aspect of the game, thats all...

I don't see what the big deal is, eloborate group celebrations are catching on all over the place. I know that in my office when we finish a big project we like to spike the report and dance like there's no tomorrow! We also dump the water cooler on our boss when we get a bonus.

Next time you get a chance to watch a video of Riggo's TD run in the Super Bowl (without question on of the five greatest plays in Redskin history), watch what he does.

He takes the ball and tosses it to the official and runs off to line up for the extra point.

That play put him in the HOF.

This is an emotional game. I'm all in favor of genuine emotional reaction, celebration and release. The stuff that looks like it was choreographed by a bunch of gay figure skaters is crap though.

The Barry Sanders way! Honestly to me if it doesn't make fun of the other team (taunting) and does not delay the game, I think it is all kind of funny. When Chad Johnson ran off and proposed to that cheerleader last year or threw autographed footballs into the stands, he did it all from the sidelines, which did not violate either of my above two points. Stuff done on the sidelines, doesn't slow the game down.

Both of the times that Santana torched roy and glenn he simply handed the ball off to the ref and ran back to the sidelines. Maybe he was just tired from running so damn fast, or maybe he was just saving his energy in case he had to do it again; either way, they were my favorite 'celebrations' of the year.

Obviously, fans want to see the celebrations - they're funny and/or entertaining. I propose these rules that would keep it reasonable:

1) 5 second limit
2) nothing offensive (ie sexual)
3) no props other than the ball and/or other items already in the endzone

What about involvement w/ fans - like the Lambeau Leap?

NFL needs to relax a bit...
