Packers | Teams calling about the No. 5 draft pick
Fri, 31 Mar 2006 18:03:50 -0800

Tom Silverstein, writing for the Sporting News, reports Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson has fielded inquiries from teams who are interested in obtaining the club's No. 5 draft pick and will probably consider options for moving back. He doesn't want to move too far and fall out of reach of the elite players, but he could drop two or three spots and still have a shot at Maryland TE Vernon Davis, a potential candidate for the Packers.

the 49ers and Panthers have/will also both meet privately with Safety prospect Darnell Bing.

Dolphins | Team expected to visit with WR S. Moss
Dolphins | Team expected to visit with WR D. Aromashodu
Dolphins | Team expected to visit with QB O. Jacobs
Dolphins | Team visits with DT F. Evans

No one has a more active scouting staff than the dolphins... Looks like the ship was righted in short order and they're not slowing down.

Dolphins | Team has private workout with S. Holmes
Sat, 1 Apr 2006 06:32:40 -0800

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Miami Dolphins held a private workout with Ohio State WR Santonio Holmes Friday, March 31. Holmes weighed in at 187 pounds, just one pound shy of his normal playing weight and that was important to note because teams had been concerned about Holmes' weight loss earlier this month. At his Pro Day workout March 9 on the Ohio State campus, Holmes had weighed just 179 pounds. Two weeks before that, at the NFL Combine sessions in Indianapolis, his official weight was 188 pounds. "I think what scouts didn't realize at the 'pro day' was that I had been fighting the flu for about a week," a relieved Holmes said after the session with Miami. In that workout Holmes was clocked between 4.32 and 4.36 seconds by most scouts. With Dolphins' general manager Randy Mueller throwing to him, Holmes reportedly caught the ball well at his workout with Miami.

NFL | Canty works out at Pro Day
Sat, 1 Apr 2006 13:20:56 -0800

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Winston-Salem State OG Kevin Canty measured a height of 5-11 7/8 and a weight of 371 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash twice with times of 5.61 seconds. He measured a 26 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 6-foot-11 broad jump while completing 25 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press.

5'11" and 371lbs... now THAT's what i'd call a fatty.

He measured a 32-inch vertical jump and an 8-foot-11 broad jump while completing 33 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press.

NFL | Adeyanju does some work at Pro Day

Sat, 1 Apr 2006 19:53:25 -0800

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Indiana DL Victor Adeyanju measured a height of 6-4 and a weight of 267 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash with times of 4.68 seconds and 4.69 seconds while standing on the rest of his numbers from the NFL Combine.

NFL | P. McQuistan works out at Pro Day
Sat, 1 Apr 2006 20:18:39 -0800

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Indiana OT Pat McQuistan measured a height of 6-6 1/8 and a weight of 314 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash with a time of 5.10 seconds, but could not run a second time after tweaking his hamstring. NFL | Thompson works out at Pro Day
Sun, 2 Apr 2006 11:50:07 -0700

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports North Dakota State DL Rodney Thompson measured a height of 6-2 and a weight of 324 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash with times of 5.03 seconds and 5.05 seconds while he finished the short shuttle in 4.60 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.43 seconds. He measured a 34 1/2-inch vertical jump and an 8-foot-6 broad jump while completing 22 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press.

His last known times were 310lbs and 5.20... adding 15lbs and knocking off .15seconds means he gets a free trip to someone's training camp as fodder for 2006.

good (not earthshattering) numbers... he's a 6'3" 245lbs 4.55 guy that should go near round 5.

NFL | P. Pope works out at Pro Day
Sun, 2 Apr 2006 16:58:27 -0700

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Bowling Green RB P.J. Pope measured a height of 5-9 1/2 and a weight of 218 pounds at his Pro Day. decent numbers. another undrafted guy (terrible senoir year). productive in college (over 5ypc, 2 of his 3 seasons he caught 50 balls) and someone who might be a good camp fodder type pickup.

NFL | Washington works out at Pro Day
Sun, 2 Apr 2006 16:06:04 -0700

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Missouri DB Calvin Washington measured a height of 6-0 1/8 and a weight of 195 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash with times of 4.57 seconds and 4.63 seconds while completing the short shuttle in 3.88 seconds, the long shuttle in 11.38 seconds, and the three-cone drill in 6.56 seconds. He measured a 36-inch vertical jump and a 9-foot-10 1/2 broad jump while completing 14 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press.

Slow 40 time, but those are the best shuttle and 3cone times i've seen all offseason. His jumping isn't amazing either, but its good enough. He could be a great coverage safety or nickel corner if his football skills can match his measurements (he played in 56 games in college, but only posted 1 int his junoir year and 21 tackles his senoir year... either no one caught anything or he had a very very small role). Might be decent camp fodder.

NFL | Maxey works out at Pro Day
Sun, 2 Apr 2006 12:33:47 -0700

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Miami CB Marcus Maxey measured a weight of 192 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash twice with times of 4.42 seconds while finishing the short shuttle in 4.24 seconds, the long shuttle in 11.26 seconds, and the three-cone drill in 7.60 seconds. He was also able to complete 17 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press.

this is a 6'2" (big) CB, and running 4.42 helps (his last 40 time was 4.48). He'll be gone in the 3rd-4th round, cause he's one of only 3 CBs this year that are 6'2"+ and run in the 4.4s. Those shuttle and 3cone times are terrible (the better CBs can get 3.95ish on the shuttle, and 6.65ish on the 3cone). That means that his agility and his ability to start and stop on a dime are really bad and he'll struggle on quick cuts and fakes.

NFL | N. Cole works out at Pro Day
Wed, 5 Apr 2006 21:46:05 -0700

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports New Mexico State OL Nick Cole measured a height of 6-0 5/8 and a weight of 350 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash with times of 5.20 seconds and 5.28 seconds while finishing the short shuttle in 4.40 seconds and the three-cone drill in 7.90 seconds. He measured a 25-inch vertical jump and an 8-foot-5 broad jump while completing 25 repetitions on the 225-pound bench press.

with almost all the pro days out of the way now, this thread is about done.

However, when a fatty (350lbs on a 6'6" guy is fat, so 350lbs on a 6'0" guy is morbid) runs in the 5.2s, it's worth noting. Our phatest OL (doc at 345) runs a 5.6 even. 25 reps isn't exactly worth writing home about, and it means most of his bulk is indeed fat tissue, but man, he's fast for a tubby.
