Re: Handcuffed by a Dumbass
There is an easy solution to all of this. If a player gets hurt doing something other than football and can not play, he does not get paid and he does not count against the teams salary cap.
Easy! Although the cheap owners would say no to my proposal because this will cut into the money these cheap skates pocket each year. |

Playing basketball, playing with your kids, and swimming are not as dangerous as riding an ATV. Unless you don't know how to swim, in which case it would be STUPID to try without taking lessons first. You take the argument to the extreme. It's as if risk is an all or nothing thing with you, black vs white. Saying they need to live in a bubble takes my argument WAY too far. Quite simply put, some things are more risky than others, and riding ATVs is one of them. And an NFL player can choose LOTS of other ways to live his life than pick something as risky as riding ATVs. The real pertinent point here is how the hell did Rabach get the cut on his leg? If he was an experienced ATV rider, you'd think he'd know how to take precautions against these things. You'd think he could be careful. As CPayne said, he's ridden tons of motorbikes and ATVs and never had a problem. Well, let's for a second assume that Rabach is as experienced as CPayne. If that's the case, then maybe a temporary lapse in judgment caused his accident. And when you're making a million dollars a year that could go up in smoke if you get hurt, why in the hell would you partake in any activity in which a lapse in judgment could result in the loss of all that money?? How can you be sure you won't have a lapse in judgment at the wrong time. It's human nature, we're prone to making mistakes. It would be an extremely costly mistake to make in Casey Rabach's situation. Now let's for a second assume the other possibility, that Rabach was being careless on the ATV, and simply ignoring precautions. That's just plain stupid no matter how you cut it. I think at this point I'm willing to let the argument die. All I can do is repeat myself, because every time I check this thread someone new chimes in with the same lame points that others have already made. All I hear from you people is "don't tell people how to live their lives" or "you could get hurt doing anything". That's so devoid of logic and reasoning it makes me feel dumber just by reading it. It comes down to one thing, FUN. People choose to ride the ATVs because it's fun, and that's what Rabach did. Some people choose to have sex without a condom with a girl they don't know very well. Why? BECAUSE IT'S FUN. They know it's not smart, but they have a lapse in judgment and do it anyway. I'm not perfect, I do the same things. The difference here is I don't whine when my friends smack me around and call me an idiot for doing it. Rabach made a dumb decision to ride the ATV. I'm done with the discussion.
