The thing is, if a team drafts a player, they have to work to develop him and that takes time. We simply expect draftees to already be at a certain level when we bring him in. Other teams strategy is to throw rookies and late drat picks into to the fire and hope that they fare well. And that has obvious risks.

speaking of which, the steelers seem to have the most luck throwing rookies in to start. big ben, heath miller, santonio holmes, etc etc.
