So i guess I have a PC2-4200 DDR2 thing. Can anyone show me a good place to buy one and tell me what to buy?
newegg.com is where i buy most of my crap. most things get to your house in 2 days and they're the cheapest and most used online computer shop. very very good reputation to boot.

this one is $56... there's a cheaper one, but its a no-name and i've had problems with crap makers before. I've never had a bad Kingston stick though.

gimme 5 minutes to see if i can find a better price.

Re: I need a laptop

nope, $56 is the cheapest you can get it (51$ + 5$ shipping) without it being a crap brand. and yeah, I'd say the difference from 512mb to 1gb is worth the cost. above 1gb you probably won't notice unless you use massive photoshop files, use the laptop as a database server (why oh why?) or play very specific new games (but laptop gfx cards would probably be the bottleneck before ram).

When buying memory, I either buy Kingston or Crucial...nothing else. and I second newegg.com.

If it is good enough for that guy and DBohnzie, it is good enough for me. I'll get something like that real soon.

BTW, my computadora is one of the 4 things circulating on bestbuy.com 's home page. It makes me feel special. Its only there because its on sale for $850 though .

Re: I need a laptop

ram goes on sale often... unfortunately, laptop ram (sodimms) is rarely included. office depot or best buy are the most likely to have rebates on 512mb sticks of kingston, but you might only get one good sale price (below newegg) every 3 months or so, so I'd check, but i wouldn't hold my breath (and some people just aren't anal enough to deal with rebates).

I'll wait for a bit and check out some stores and ask around over there because I got time before I need it.

Another question. I have a 'magicgate' on the side of the laptop. WTF is that?

Sony jump drives have Magicgate which encrypt and restrict copying of files to and from the laptop via the magicgate port. It only matters if you get a Sony memory stick I believe. Anyone else know for positive?
