Re: Roethlisberger injured in motorcycle accident
I bet someone in the PA house/senate is working a new law requiring helmets for riders.

What I am arguing is that riders know the risk. What they choose to do with that knowledge is up to them. Even the boneheads who ride around in flipflops and shorts w/no helmet. They know...they just have made a decision about their risk tolerance. Would they make a different decision after a low-speed crash w/significant injuries such as Ben's situation...maybe, but they can't say they didn't know the risks. As such I do not support laws that govern mandatory safety equipment when engaged in private activities, just like I don't support laws that inhibit your right to buy a pack of cigs, a bag of pork rinds, or a bottle of jack, despite the inherent health risks. For what it's worth I have been riding in D.C./NoVA traffic daily for 10 years without an even close call (knock on wood). In that same time, I have been in two accidents in cages (both due to other driver hitting me). What does that mean...nothing, just that perception is not always reality. If they didn't look/see my big ass car then what I am driving/riding is irrelevant. People generally don't look, so I ride like I am invisible to all around me. For what its worth I always ride with a full face helmet and full high-vis gear. Ben would have likely walked away from this incident with nary a scratch had he been geared up properly, but we'll never know. Mc2guy P.S. As for your last power, we are in agreement. I would not ride if my multi-million dollar career depended on me being in physically top condition. Personally, a riding related injury would slow me down, but it would not end my career and that factors into my decision to ride. It should have factored into his. |

Re: Roethlisberger injured in motorcycle accident
Update from Pittsburgh live.com
"... Roethlisberger lost most of his teeth, fractured his left sinus cavity bone, suffered a nine-inch laceration to the back of his head and a broken jaw, and severely injured both of his knees when he hit the ground, police said. ..." |

Would you agree that you can be hurt more in an accident when you are riding a motorcycle versus driving a car ? |

Re: Roethlisberger injured in motorcycle accident
To me, it's not about the chances of getting into an accident with a car or motorcycle (that's debatable, or maybe not with stats).
It's about which vehicle would be considered to be inherently safer in an accident: car or motorcycle ? ... in other words, which would you choose to be an accident in: car or motorcycle ? |

NFL QBs only have so many shots to the head they can take. This may have used up all he has.

Re: Roethlisberger injured in motorcycle accident
I pray that he will be OK. I found out 20 minutes ago when my steeler friend called and was horrified. I slept till 4 and sadly missed the world cup. He should have been wearing a helmet. He is a dumbass. His knees still may have been injured but it is clear other injuries would have been far less serious, broken jaw, 9 inch cut, loss of a lot of teeth. I think he will live and that is the important thing. Lets hope he has a full recovery

Re: Roethlisberger injured in motorcycle accident
Didn't he already have some kind of knee problems? Regardless, the knee injuries will probably prove to be much more problematic than anything else.

Re: Roethlisberger injured in motorcycle accident
9 inch laceration in the back of the head? That sounds like a pretty big gash...ah, who needs a helmet. I wonder how he'll manage to wear a football helmet in 7 weeks and comfortably take hits where his head hits hits grass.
p.s. This sure has hell doesn't look like a Harley/Chopper/Cruiser. I wonder what it is.
