Jamal Reynolds ... Fair Game... but who wants to play??
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/column...len&id=1839888
Well.. he's out there... for league minimum? Why not? I know he failed a physical but... the Colts liked him for their scheme because of the quickness involved in their scheme (similiar to Gregg Williams). Hell... at least to compete in camp with the other guys... we DO need SOME hope of a pass rush on the ends... I know I'm grasping at straws.. I just KNOW that's gonna be our weak spot

I would say he would be something to consider. Wont cost us much to try him. We could always hope that he could be another Daryl Garner. We may have to wait in line to sign him, due to others teams wanting him. But you never know.

I don't think competition will be very heavy at this stage of the game. I think that when you hear about something like this that you should always give it some degree of consideration. I do not know the details however, so if anyone knows anything more about this please share.

If he failed a simple physical something tells me he might struggle getting in shape in time for Gibbs' treadmill tests.
This guy is garbage and a waste of time. |

he had a good number of FF/sacks per tackle, but... 17 tackles in his entire career and only 5 games last season... not sure it'd be worth the time to even bother teaching him the playbook... but there wouldn't really be much to lose either...

I think he was really miscast in Green Bay, he is more of an edge rusher and would probably do best as a rush lb in a 3-4. I think he could be effective as a situational pass rusher for us, him on one side and LaVar on the other with Washington standing up behind one of them ready to blitz. Worth a shot, although I think the Bears are probably going to get him first if his knees hold up at all.

Here is the thing, he didn't pass the physical, but these physicals are anything but simple. He certainly has some knee problems, but is he likely to recover fully? We have the chance to sign him at the league minimum salary or very close to it. If he has the right character and the right work ethic then I say sign him to a 2 or 3 year contract (with little or no bonus) that is extremely performance incentive based. That is not to say that I know too much about his character or work ethic, so if anyine knows anything about this aspect I'd love to hear it.

Can everyone here focus for a moment on the Packers/Colts deal that was in place?
Reynolds was a first round pick of the Packers not too long ago. However, his on-field productivity in the NFL has been "disappointing" to be most polite. If you want candor, he has stunk like a skunk's butt. What did he bring in trade value? A conditional 7th round pick that could be upgraded to a 6th round pick if he was in on more than a certain percentage of the Indy defensive snaps. Please remember this the next time someone here proposes that the Redskins trade their 4th wide receiver for two first round picks and a player. Market value for players who have not demonstrated a high level of on-field productivity in the MFL is really pretty meager. People take chances drafting someone; people usually don't take chances on other teams' castoffs or scrubs. The Skins d-line is still pretty weak, but Jamal Reynolds is not enough of an upgrade to take the chance that he will be healthy and able to play. |
