Tony's whole schtick since day one has been, and continues to be to downplay the Redskins and talk up cowgirls and St. Louis lambs.
However, they are the local voice of the ODU Monarchs, my fav College BB team, and soon to be FB in 2009.
Tony broadcasts the Lady Monarchs, and knows NFL FB spreads like the back of his hand. He also knows the ponies.
The local AAA Baseball Tides are the other featured highlight (yawn!).

Backrow, you and I know all about 1310. I hate it when they broadcast from a remote site and half the show is spent talking about mortgages, refinances, or heating and air conditioning repairs. And yes, the Tides absolutely SUCK! Honestly, I don't know who actually sits at the radio and listens to a 3 and half hour Tides baseball broadcast -- the announcer puts you to sleep (along with the game itself) there's zero crowd participation -- I just don't see how that gets any ratings whatsoever! The station has got to be losing money with that crap!
The Virginian-Pilot did a write up on Mercurio a few years ago, explaining how he got the nickname "Blastman". Apparently, the program director he used to work for realized their ratings were in the toilet (big surprise) so his boss told him to work up the audience by "blasting the Redskins." Get people ticked off, and they will call in and the ratings go up. Apparently it worked.
Anyway, he's a baseball guy first, and football to him is second. To bad there's not an all - football broadcast. And yes, on some days when the stars are aligned, I can get the D.C. area Sportstalk 980 station, if I can stomach all the static.
