It would have prevented our starter from getting walloped on that fumble return. No benefit to Campbell, I agree with MK72 there, but I would think they would be a little more wary of injuries.

Great philosophy. So that means Campbell sits again next season, which could possibly be Gibbs last season, and is still basically a rookie the following season(his fourth). The new coach installs a new system, and Campbell, never getting any actual game experience, doesn't pick it up right away. The new coach brings in some other overpaid reject quarterback from another team, and the majority of this forums membership claims the Campbell hasn't shown anything and was never Coach Asshat's guy anyway. He's cut or traded the following season.

I know a lot of people like to think that Gibbs' present tenure as head coach will be exactly like the last one, but he started this new tenure at 62, not 43. He's having health problem because of the time he puts into coaching. He'll coach this season, possibly next season, and that'll be it, unless something drastic happens. Campbell needs to show whether or not he's a viable starter while Gibbs is still in charge, or there's a good chance he'll be castoff before even getting a chance.

FOR ONE HE WOULD HAVE GOTTEN GAME SPEED EXPERIENCE, HE COULD GET REPS WITH MOST OF THE FIRST TEAM OFF. NOT TO MENTION THE EVER SO VALUABLE QUATERBACK CENTER EXCHANGE. I MEAN YOU DID SEE WHAT HAPPENED TO DAVID CARR AND HIS CENTER..LOL I THINK ITS VERY IMPORTANT TO START GETTING JC READY. IT MIGHT NOT BE FOR THIS YEAR BUT IN MOP UP SITUATIONS THE FUTURE OF THIS TEAM SHOULD BE ON THE FIELD.. WHO KNOWS WHAT IF MB GETS HURT AND JC HAS TO PLAY THIS YEAR. (WHICH IS VERY POSSIBLE). WOULD YOU WANT A QB IN THERE WHO HAS 0 REPS OR A QB IN THERE WHO AT LEAST HAS BEEN GETTING SOME REPS IN THE GAME, EVEN IF ITS ONLY HANDING THE BALL OFF...

Alright enough with the all caps.

Bringing Campbell in to hand the ball off doesn't accomplish anything.

First of all, I believe keeping Saunders on board may be possible, so Campbell doesn't learn a new system necessarily. Secondly, Campbell has gained valuable NFL experience (ie playing in 3 pre-seasons) and will be much better than the Jason Campbell fresh out the box. If he is cut/ traded in the final season, it means Campbell was a bad move. Not every draft pick pans out. Not every player reaches his "potential".

I think handling Campbell the proven most effective way isn't a "Bad Philosophy". Quarterbacks starting right out the gate RARELY accomplish anything. I would like to see the best quarterback on our team play, and regardless of any long term plans, Mark Brunell is "our guy" at the moment. This is not a re-building year, this is not a "work in progress". This is a superbowl run and the best players should be playing.

Sorry, you don't put JC in in this situation. Look, you've just seen this team get rattled against our division foes and lose the first game with a heartbreak field goal. You let your starters who have struggled, i.e. MB, stay in and savor this win. If we're up 42-0, I can see putting the back up in...which would be Todd Collins since Campbell is #3.

Brunnel should be benched for going 0 for 1 on his last pass.

Re: Brunell sucks - Ends Game with 2/5 passing

3 incomplete passes? time for a benching.

still, before the brunell love goes all out, let's wait till we see how he does in jacksonville. I personally wanted to wait to see houston before screaming for a benching, and he proved he's good against a crap team and the coaches finally got a handle on a scheme (versus random play calling).

now that they're on track with the basics, let's see how they expand the offense to deal with a great D.

Re: Brunell sucks - Ends Game with 2/5 passing

there is 2 things that coach gibbs is a master at. the first is game planning, finding the other teams weakness. and the other is adjustments, coming up with new ways once the others dont work. ill take coach gibbs over jack del rio, anyday( and twice on sunday) but for this to be effective, the game must be close

Re: Brunell sucks - Ends Game with 2/5 passing

I think brunell gets off by short passes, it is the only logical explaination.

On the TD to Randle El the ball was behind him and he was only 30 feet away, on the Patten Catch MB almost got him killed (that was only a 25yd pass and he over threw it again), Llyods grab was great another bad pass. If MB leaves his recievers open to big hits against the Jags there are going to be some players carted off the field, they have a nasty d that likes to punish. 24-27 for 267yards that is a little over 11 yards per pass, and if was mostly YAC that padded his numbers. We should have put Campbell in during garbage time for some experience. Congrats MB for beating what equates to a college team, without throwing a pass over 25 yds.
Thats why The Texans would have been the perfect Team for Campbell to cut his teeth...we will need that athleticism against the Jags...
